When not busy with the cottage (and, more recently, snogging Albus Potter), Scorpius has been working on his broom. The repairs (and the snogging, for those wondering) have been going rather well and he's nearly restored the broom to its former glory.
And there haven't been any more incidents.
Until now.
When the broom, set on the table in front of him, suddenly bursts into flames.
"Oh!"
Scorpius jumps out of his chair, his eyebrows nearly singed, and douses the fire with a quickly cast spell. He's fast enough to save the table but not the broom.
There's only a neat pile of ash left that Scorpius pokes at, the broom having been completely incinerated.
" - Shite."
He starts laughing.

(At least he isn't bleeding this time.
As far as you know.)no subject
He shrugs and goes about siphoning up the ash - with another spell, of course! - before the waitrats start to complain at him for making a mess.
no subject
Huh. He guesses that makes sense. Well, he kind of figured that before Scorpius said anything. But it's nice to have it confirmed. "Want help?"
no subject
"Oh. Thanks, but, uhm - I've got it already."
Scorpius grins, pocketing his wand.
"Have I still got my eyebrows?" he asks, wiggling them.
(He's a bit too scared to find out himself.)
no subject
"Still there," he adds, just in case of cultural misunderstandings. Cause you never know. Yeah.
no subject
"Brilliant," he responds happily. He'd have hated being eyebrow-less.
"Sam, right?"
no subject
He's stealing a seat at the table, because he can. Hopefully Scorpius doesn't mind, riding on the glow of having eyebrows as he is.
no subject
He's not interrupting anything, anyway.
Scorpius' work has, quite literally, vanished.
"How are you?"
no subject
Or, you know. As fine as his life ever gets. People seem to be mostly ignoring his existence for the moment, which would be better if his mom wasn't kind of doing it, too. She's been on night shifts for a few days, so most of his contact with her is through the notes she leaves on the kitchen table reminding him to do his homework and occasionally leaving money so he can order take-out, so long as it's healthy-ish.
(Yeah, pretty much all of it has been going to Milliways.)
"You?"

It's friendly, if ever so slightly hesitant.
(Their last conversation ... well, 'conversation' is probably a very generous term.)
"Hello, Scorpius."
no subject
And scared, too.
"Oh, Lily. Uhm, yes. Broom revolution. It might have hit a wall at the moment, but I'll, er - I don't know, find another broom."
He starts to clean the mess up
and look for a place to hide.no subject
"I guess every great revolution has a few missteps along the way, yeah?
"And speaking of missteps ... I'm pretty sure I owe you an apology. I was, um, pretty rude, the last time I saw you. And honestly, it was just a really bad day for me, and I took part of it out on you and I shouldn't have.
"And I'm sorry."
no subject
"'S fine," he murmurs, "You wanted to be, er, alone, and I can understand that. I've been told to shove off before, anyway. You didn't hurt my feelings."
(Only, she had. But he doesn't want to say so; he'd rather forget. She's Albus' grandmother, and he doesn't want there to be any issues whatsoever between them. Especially as thing with Albus are going so well now.)
no subject
A lot of it really was just very bad timing.
"So, how've you been?"
no subject
"I'm, uhm - I'm good. Really good, actually."
He knows that she knows so he doesn't bother to hide the genuine, and utterly mushy, grin that comes about just thinking on the other boy.
"And, er, you? How are you? I hope you got, er - Whatever it was that was giving you a bad day sorted out."
no subject
And she is.
Because, yeah, she does know.
(The grin is encouraging, really, after everything she's heard about, too.)
"I'm good. It's sorted enough, I'd say."
As sorted as things with Severus Snape are likely to get, at any rate. Which may or may not ever actually be all that sorted.
But sorted enough.
"And it's nearly Christmas at home, believe it or not."
no subject
And it can go as slow as it'd like, as far as Scorpius is concerned. He's not in any rush for the new term.

Scorpius greets the Hufflepuff and her bit of helpful magic with a grin.
"Oh, thanks! Er, Hogwarts-student-I-haven't-met-yet."
no subject
There was something about time travel about this place, right? She expects he might be from another year in addition to another Year. It's not that she pretends to know everyone in Ravenclaw, but she's fairly certain she'd at least vaguely recognize him, otherwise.
"Rose Zeller, Fourth Year."
no subject
Because that whole time travel thing is real and Scorpius knows it well after hanging around Milliways as long as he has.
no subject
And then, because as if that wasn't enough, she realizes he just said Malfoy.
There's... there's really not much she can say to that.
no subject
Her silence is a bit unsettling. He wonders which it is that has her buttoned up the most: the time-thing or the Malfoy-thing.
"Someone, er - Someone explained Milliways to you, right? What year are you from?"
no subject
no subject
"Oh. So, uhm - Right. Well, then."
