When Charles enters today, he looks slightly relieved, he's handed in his final draft of his doctoral, the end is in sight. The change to the Bar is unexpected and he carefully walks among the Loegs and building blocks, they're interesting and colorful. At the counter, he gets the vid screen and stares at it for quite a long time, this wasn't what he expected today.







No mutation

He orders a Scotch as he considers the screen before finally asking for an explanation of the holiday and dismissing the options. That's not a change he will ever choose to make, but its left him shaken that Milliways can offer it. Sallie did tell him that Cubefall could be difficult, he just hadn't expected this.

"Are you all right?"
Red's smelled his consternation, of course - and really, she's just as rattled over the options she got - but there's something to be said for asking the question, every now and then.

"Hello, Red, I don't know. I've heard about this holiday but it still surprised me,"

To be able to just give up his mutation even to try is disturbing.

"You'd heard of it? From someone who's been here a while, I take it?"
If he's only heard of it, that implies he hasn't been through it before himself. For Red's part, Mary hadn't mentioned the holiday, but it seems Mary's access has been sporadic enough that she may have missed it entirely.

"Yes, Sallie Reynolds, one of the Barman, she told me a little about it,"

It's not a holiday that Sallie likes but Charles was trying to keep an open mind, transformation can be powerful.

"I hadn't realised there were proper barmen as well as Lady Bar."

When Iris walks in the door, she starts staring at all the toys and blocks in wonderment.

"What in Zeus' name is all this?"

It takes him a few moments but he smiles when he feels the touch of her mind and waves to her,

"Cubefall, its a holiday from another world."

Walking over to Charles' seat, "I don't understand. What is the celebration? Why?"

"It's apparently about transformation and if you put things into the fire or create something, you'll be blessed. Then you're presented with options to try new configurations,"

He passes the vid screen he was given over to her so she can read the explanation, briefly tapping the dismiss on his optional changes.

"Reconfigurations?" Iris asks aloud.

Option 1: A rabbit. No thank you.
Option 2: Hermes. "Oh absolutely not!"
Option 3: Human.






Iris just sort of stares.

"Oh, this again," says the grey-haired young woman with faded facial scars as she does her best to find a comfortable seat at the Bar. "Good Lord, has it been a year on this side of the door already?"

He looks over at her as he says, "Does time here run differently than in your world?"

"Very much so," says Ellen; she's always surprised, when she comes in here, that she hasn't officially reached her twentieth birthday yet.

Soon, though. Soon.

"I've seen several annual holidays pass here at different times, and it's been less than a year on my side of the door..."

"I see, so its difficult to know of what the time differential is?"

As yet, Milliways seems to following close to time on his side of the door.

"It never seems to be quite the same differential twice," Ellen admits. That walk to the Pitt, tracking Dave over bare ground with the glasses that 'saw' his smell, was hundreds of miles and a handful of weeks, and then the same time and the same walk back; and yet here.... "A trip that took me two months once only wound up being about a week or so here. Maybe less. And other times I can come into the Bar at the end of the day three days in a row by my calendar, and it's Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday here, too."

...it'd be pretty hard to miss that 'kid at christmas' level of joy that bursts from the stairs. Even if Charles is listening in only the most passive of senses.

Tyler'll get to his vidwindow with the configuration options in a moment.

That level of joy and the familiar mind distract Charles from his own thoughts and he spots Tyler and smiles and waves,

"Hello, Tyler."

"Hi Charles! Happy Cubefall!"

Tyler's waving at him before hopping up to the bar to let his configurations screen pop up.

"No choices you like?"

Charles doesn't look at the window as that seems rather rude, his options made him slightly uncomfortable after all.

"I kinda like the fuzzy mammal option, and the bird, the dinosaur I'm not so sure on..."

And I definitely don't want the one that gives me superpowers.

Graham is only just beginning to notice that there are video screens randomly popping up for patrons as they sit down.

He frowns, settling into the seat next to Charles, wondering whether a screen will pop up in front of him soon.

"I don't suppose you have any idea what's going on in the Bar today?" he casually asks.

"It's a holiday called Cubefall which is about transformation and creation from a planet called Cybertron,"

Charles has the explanation pulled up on his screen since he's dismissed his choices and passes it over to Graham.

[ahuntsman]

Graham leans forward to read the description.

"... I've got no idea what any of that means," he says with a slightly apologetic laugh. "Cubefall? Cybertron? What does it have to do with the whole bar?"

Maybe it's just another thing he needs to get used to in this strange place. He's still new enough that he's pretty ready to accept it, nevertheless.

"I think its a holiday that Bar has rather adopted and what it means depends on the person. What you make of it appears to be the best way to deal with Milliways in my experience,"

Thus he's choosing to not deal with the transformation aspect.

Graham nods, glancing up the screen and its description of this holiday.

It's not exactly like the holidays back where he's from, where the most that happens are fireworks, an exchange of gifts, prayers or a lot of food.

"Fair enough," he says, passing the screen back. "That's generally how I'm choosing to deal with all the odd things this place has thrown at me so far."
