Much as late afternoons pretty much require a cold beer and maybe some food or company, the sky's awful pretty this time of day and so Jack's still outside, sitting up on the top bar of the paddock fence, smoking and watching the clouds roll over the trees and the lake. The breeze is still sort of nippy, cool through the thin material of his shirt, but maybe he revels in it a little.

Kind of a nice day, all told. 'Course, those horses ain't exactly the best company, always.
