The time's coming when Wells is going to have to assemble some people that he knows and take care of things back home, but for now he's putting that time off. He and Annie spent most of the day together. For now she's off doing more research on other worlds' recipes to see what she can adapt to her own use. Harry, for his part, is settled in at a table near the fire. Dinner's done with, and he's got a pint; it's really not a bad situation at all.

"It does if you're a sports fan," Wells says. "I don't suppose you follow football at all? Be a bit pointless to ask about the World Cup if you don't."

"I watched perhaps one game while I was there. Nita Callahan or Kit Rodriguez might be able to tell you, if you know them."

"Mmmm... can't say I do, no." Wells shakes his head. "Doesn't matter, I suppose. Thought I'd ask."

"It's not a game we play, on my world."

Or if it is, he hasn't been exposed to it.

"Your world." Up go the eyebrows. "Not from Earth, then? You're missing out on a bit."

Roshaun shakes his head.

"My world's called Wellakh. I've spent a little time on Earth, but not long."

"Can't say I've heard of it," Wells says, "but then again most worlds other'n the nine in the solar system are out of my league. What's it like?"

"I'm rather fond of the place. But I suppose... it's home."

"Descriptive," Wells says dryly. "How'd you wind up knowing Earthlings, anyway?"

"One side is desert, the other is largely city. And I met them through our wizardry - an exchange trip."

"Side?" Wells repeats. "Of an entire planet? Damn, that's one big city..."

"Several cities, or they were once. And it's not a very large planet."

"Ah," says Wells, nodding. "All right, that makes a bit more sense. I was picturing something like what that Calrissian bloke mentioned- one big damn city covering damn near everything on land and extending under the water."

He's thinking of Coruscant.

Roshaun looks interested.

"I've never seen anything like that. Except perhaps the Crossings, but they don't cover their entire planet."

"'s not in Earth's galaxy is all I know about it," Wells says. "Dunno if you'd've met anybody from there. I don't think they've got wizards, but if you've ever been where the Jedi come from, I think that's where it is. Crossings?"

"The central hub of travel for wizards in my universe. Mainly for wizards."

"Aah," says Wells. "The things you miss, spending nine-tenths of your life as... what did Spoon call it... 'a mundane'..."

"There are worlds where wizards can be open about what they are", Roshaun says casually. "But I understand Earth isn't one of them."

Wells nods. "Wouldn't be surprised. Far as I knew up until two years ago, magic 'n wizardry and stuff like that wasn't much more than fairy stories."

"It may be safer that way, in some worlds where there is real magic."

"Oh, it's there all right," Wells says grimly. "I dunno about wizards, but we've got shapechanging monsters at least. Among other things."

"Shapechanging monsters?"

"Werewolves, specifically. Ever heard of 'em?"

"...once or twice", he says after a moment's thought. "In stories."

Wells nods. "They're real where I come from," he says. "I dunno what else is, but I can vouch for them at the very least."
