Knox stumbles downstairs from his room, still wearing the same crumpled clothes he arrived in. He needs a shave. He needs food. At least he somehow managed to take a shower, which is why his hair is wet as well as disordered.

He plops down in the darker recesses of the room, and when the rat arrives, the exhausted reporter orders a large omelette, a large glass of juice, and a large mug of strong black coffee.

You can say hello, but it might not the smarter thing to ask how he is.
