The door opens, as it so often does. There's light and motion on the other side, and the sound of busy people doing terribly important things.
There is also one man who has the unmistakable bearing of the career military. It is also the undeniably faintly miffed attitude of a military man who has been issued a uniform that looks as if the Ministry of Defence's procurement board went with the same uniform manufacturers who supply dustbin men with their work-wear, although he does a fair job of hiding it.
He gets no further than two steps into the Bar before looking sharply left, then right, then behind him.
"If this is the reason for the station's 'unaccountable power drain', I'm going to be extremely put out," says Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart.
