Bartleby in his room

By this time, Bartleby has tried everything he can think of on the lock. It won't budge. He's started pacing, his wings twitching. There is nothing to do other than think about what he is, what he's done. He shakes his head violently, trying to knock the memories loose, and unfurls his wings.

It takes him a moment to realise why they feel different. He's... he's been clipped.
