Guppy is in a booth near the door, looking over some rather official papers with a worried frown.
His worrying is disturbed by someone slipping casually over to his table, wearing a black hooded jacket and scarf. Guppy looks up and frowns.
"Why are you dressed like that? Have you pissed someone off?"
The hooded figure explains his tale quietly. Guppy sighs.
"Okay, quick survival guide. Not everyone in here is secretly quite nice when you get used to them, and even the ones who are won't necessarily want to be nice to you. Never assume anyone is exaggerating, bluffing or secretly wants your help. Don't poke people who don't want to talk to you, even nicely. Don't try and help people who don't want you to. Most things can be solved either with an apology or keeping a low profile. This is probably the latter, being reminded of you will just make things worse."
He rolls up a sleeve to show scars higher up his arm. "These? Are just from Holby. You won't survive long in either world unless you get your act together. If anyone hurts you, then call for Security, but try and stay out of trouble? I don't have time to babysit you as well."
The figure nods dejectedly. Guppy softens slightly.
"You're an idiot, but at the end of the day, all you did was talk to the guy. If someone catches up with you, tell them what happened, that you misunderstood the severity of the situation, that you've learned from it and that it won't happen again, okay? They'll probably still row you, but most people should understand that you didn't do it on purpose."
"Now get out of here before they see you, and don't come back until things have had time to calm down."
Guppy watches, shaking his head in despair, until he's sure the man got out safely, then goes back to worrying over his scary legal papers.
Can't believe I used to be that stupid.
