In a bit of numismatic irony, American coins (including the brass dollars) are mostly copper--except for pennies, which are mostly zinc.

This has very little to do with anything, except that Weyland has busied himself, the past few days, with defacing currency in pursuit of creation. Or, possibly, to turn the $4.73 in pocket change he'd brought with him into something of much more value, just in case. It's best to make the most of what you have, when you don't know when you'll be able to get more.

Either way, he has turned his handful of change into a handful of feathers--swan feathers, to be precise, only smaller and varying in color between copper and silver--and currently, he is at a table near the bar, turning a length of wire into a length of chain to string the feathers on.

He doesn't mind company, and he is even not smoking at the moment, as the forge has given him his share of dirty air for the day.

"I haven't tried yet, to be honest. Haven't been here long enough to get creation-withdrawal so badly that tinkering with coins won't fix it. But if my door doesn't come back... well, they may be short on silverware, if that happens."

Ginny smiles. "Yeah? What do you like to use I can get some from my world. or transfigure stuff for you."

"I can work with any kind of metal; it all depends on what sort of project I am making. Jewelry and weapons take different kinds of metal, for instance. And when I make more... specialized projects, they take stranger materials than just metal."

"Oh I see, Some of the metals I can't change. Like gold and silver. because if we could you would never have to work again."

"I can purify alloys," he says, "extract the gold or silver from impure metals. And that would only matter if people here want to buy jewelry, anyway. Do you think they do? I would rather make jewelry than weapons, to be honest."

"Yeah, that works I guess. I would think so jewelry is much prettier and alot nicer to have and need."

"I haven't met enough people here yet to get a feel for what the inhabitants would like... though they do seem to be well-armed."

He picks up the pliers again, and resumes making tiny links for the chain.

"I've been busy enough making weapons at home, so it would be nice to have a break from that."

"Yeah, Maybe you could make them and sell them here. I bet there are bound people who would like to buy someone they are dating something."

"Ah, young love," he says with a flicker of amusement. "I remember those days. I just hope that people have not heard so much of my reputation that they wouldn't trust me to make things for them."

Ginny thinks. "I don't think so. I mean it's just a pretty sparkle right?"

"These days, yes. But it wasn't always."

He had once, famously, killed two princes and made some of their parts into jewelry. But that had been a matter of revenge.

Ginny nods."That's what the bar is about forgiveness"

"Forgiveness doesn't bother me much," he says. "Either it happens or it doesn't, and some things are unforgivable."

"That is true, There are many things that are that." Gone is her normal smile.

"We do what we have to," he says more quietly. "The world is a cruel place."

Ginny nods. "That is is. Dog eat Dog world. Survival of the fittest and all."

"It never gets easier, either. The world keeps getting more dangerous... that is one area where human invention is not lacking. Danger, and cruelty."

"Yeah i know that. It's not something we need to improve and we do."

"There is cruelty in nature, of course, but there... animals kill each other, for food or defense. They don't torture or enslave each other."

He looks back down at the wire and the pliers, and makes a few more links in the chain.

Ginny nods watching him, "I guess, its just the animal side of us, Oh, how long is it going to be?"

"The necklace?" he asks, holding up what there is of the chain so far. "Long enough to wear with a low-cut sort of neckline, once all the feathers are added, but not so long as to require an indecent one."

"Oh I see so just to accent then?"

He nods. "I would need a lot more coins if I wanted to make a bigger necklace. I suppose I could ask the bar for some change, but I'd rather not, not yet. Better to let that wait for some other time."

"Yeah, I see thats understandable. I would use those funky little forks that don't have a use anyway. Or the beer cans."

"I haven't started to worry about it yet; not money, not really. It will be more a matter of boredom, I imagine--I would hate to be bored, in here."
