It's not that unusual a sight: Meg Ford, table piled with books and notbooks and pens and highlighters, glass of lemonade.

The books, however, are nothing a professor has told her to read this time. Official Baseball Rules. Instructions to Umpires. And the one she is currently reading and highlighting her way through, Baseball by the Rules: An Anecdotal Guide to America's Oldest and Most Complex Sport.

Did you know it originally took nine balls to get a walk? Because it's definitely news to Meg.

Out of Milliways: The Scrapyard.

The door swings open on an August day that smells of blood and dust. The blood smell remains after it closes, but it's largely attached to the smaller of a pair of bedraggled figures. Ellen's in her relatively well-repaired suit of black stealth armor, and she's being followed by an odd-eyed dog that has most definitely seen better days. "Oh, good, it worked," Ellen says with visible relief. "Let's see if we can get you something more useful than a stimpak. Did that even work?"

The dog just whines softly and slinks along behind her.

"Bar," says Ray as he walks in, "I really hate doing this, but the library at the Firehouse is more than a little bit specialized and I'm currently persona non grata at the New York Public Library's main branch. By any chance could you recommend a book on negotiation for me, and possibly a really good biography of Andrew Jackson? Specifically the one from my universe? I've got a long car ride ahead of me."

[OOM: Entering the lair of lizards (the grotto of geckos?)
A daring rescue is performed, a new meatshield friend is gained]

It's been a pretty good day. Of course you don't get the good without the bad. Entering the bar from the outhouse door this time was a bit of a surprise, but Sativa has more... pressing concerns. Once those are taken care of (indoor plumbing will never be taken for granted) she's now trying to come to terms with the bad.

She sits at a table and says mournfully, "I can't believe it's come to this."

As well as, "We've been through so much together."

She's sitting there, talking to the pair of calf-length leather boots in front of her - old, well-worn and hardy (if a little roomy, but wear and tear have taken their toll. Walking in puddles of toxic sludge have not done the soles any favors - they've taken on a somewhat melty quality. "What will I do without you?"

These boots were made for walking, but now that's just what they'll no longer do.

Damian is sitting on the couch in front of the fireplace in the bar. There is a book in his hands, and the page he is turned to has archaic symbols written all over it in neat lines. The bar has been quite helpful in providing him with books translated into Old Norse.

It is not the book that currently has Damian's attention, however. His green eyes stare into the flames of the fire in front of him, and it is clear from his tense posture that he is deeply involved in his brooding.

"Bye, Kyo! Byyyyye, Tohru!"

The front door swings open and in steps Momiji, calling back over his shoulder in a friendly (and, on the last word, slightly gushing) way. The rabbit-boy is all dressed up in his new boy's uniform, with his bunny-shaped backpack over one shoulder and a melty, orange popsicle in his hand. Once inside, he scampers over to Bar, hefts himself up onto a stool, and crosses his legs.

"It's nice to be back at school," he muses to himself, tongue darting out at his popsicle. His smile, despite the chipperness in his voice, is soft and uncertain.

"...Poor Kyo, though," he says, red droplets snaking down along his fingers.

Green preteen with a wooden broadsword out back, in heated 'combat' with a large dog with larger* teeth.

Hey, not every enemy is going to be bipedal. Training comes where you can find it.

The anniversary of your death is enough to make most anyone a bit thoughtful. At the moment, Annabelle is watching the Observation Window and allowing her cup of coffee to go cold.

Ava, tucked into a discreet booth, is working on her resume.

Along with a job history detailing her summers spent at Jamba Juice and the year at Greater Peoria Family Practice, a blank page that is eventually going to be a cover letter, and a large moldy-looking book that doesn't contain anything of note about vengeance demons (though it does have an interesting section on possession), Ava has realized that for this job, it might behoove her to mention who she's killed and how.

Therefore, she is making a list. It already has half a dozen names on it, and features helpful notes like eviscerated, hanged, dismembered, and throat ripped out.

She works hard for the money, baby.

So rumor has it, back in LA, that there's another poker night brewing.
The way these things work out, it's going to be a couple months before there's anything official, and another month or so after that until the game, if it turns out there's going to be one. But it's still a vague idea of a deadline.
Moist is currently reacting to that deadline by playing solitaire. He's got a book on hand about poker, but it's hard to do much more to that end by oneself.

Yrael is on the couch, tonight, sitting with his head towards the floor, his feet resting on the back cushions. He's playing the ash-wood aulos given to him by Ganymede, getting to know it better as the soft, lilting music winds its way through the bar.

The circle of chairs is outside today, with a selection of ice creams and sorbets, a whole box of water pistols, and sunshades for the delicate skinned.
