For most of the night, Curtis stared at the ceiling; the glow of his prosthetic arm danced over the sheets every time he tried to make himself more comfortable. Sheer exhaustion pushed him into a fitful doze for a couple hours, but when the knives came out in his dreams, he jolted back awake. Long before the hallway lights came on, he gave up for good, swung himself out of his hammock, and got dressed for the day.
The sun wasn't even up when he padded into the bar. His stomach churning too much to even consider food, Curtis got a cup of coffee instead and settled in at a table near the back door.
He's still there, watching the sky lighten to a cold predawn gray, his drink nearly untouched.
