Bonnie is down by the fire, with a cappuccino and a whole pile of clothes to repair and let down. Her granddaughter could not have picked a worse moment to announce, two days before starting middle school, that none of the clothes she usually wears to school still fit her.

Of course, what Terry was actually angling for was for Bonnie to go out and buy her a whole new wardrobe of clothes, which was not happening when plenty of this stuff just needs letting down a few inches. And what better place to do it than somewhere without a time limit?

It's a very important moment in a young boy's life in the 21st century. Mum and Dad finally decided to let Fry have a mobile phone.

Fry isn't quite sure what swung it, whether it was because almost everyone else in his class has one now, or because they're going to be allowed to use them in class next term, or whether it was because he's now allowed to go down to the playground at the end of the street.

But whatever it was, he now has one, albeit it's pretty basic, and it certainly couldn't be called a 'smart' phone. But according to Mum and Dad, there's nothing likely to be more reliable out there than a Nokia 3310.

The first business of the day is to choose a ring tone. Feel free to tell him to stop.
