Jin Guangyao's birthday post

hat_and_dimplesWhen Jin Guangyao comes down for breakfast today, he is greeted with a tray he didn't order, served by the rats to the table where he means to sit and work on his spreadsheets.
The tray contains his usual tea, but also a bowl of longevity noodles, a plate of bao dumplings and three eggs dyed bright red; but also and incongruously, it also contains an open incense burner with a piece of charcoal, and a small basket that holds a number of delicately folded and glued pale yellow paper items, like miniature funeral good. As if to to drive the point home, there are two short, wide and bright red candles on the tray.
Jin Guangyao sighs, accepts the tray, pours his tea and puts a delicate golden origami flower onto the charcoal before peeling the first egg.
