Urquhart is no longer without purpose. He has a commission.
But you can't tell, from looking at him. He's lounging on a sofa, long legs curled underneath, long blond mane falling over the armrest, a globe in his lap. At the moment, he is measuring the distance from the American East Coast to Japan, and from Scotland to Australia. He seems fascinated by geography, and hardly ever looks up.
When he looks up, though, he will see Teja, sitting in a chair not far away, with his guitar, playing a love song to a cat. This is understandable, as there are three cats all over him and his chair. If the Ostrogoth is keeping an eye on the Scottish assassin while playing and singing, it's not noticeable, either.
