Gene had stayed here last night in order to get this over with - as much as he'd like to put it off a week and let Gus stay without his voice for that long, it probably wouldn't be that fair, seeing as he doesn't know when he'll be back. So he comes down earlier than he normally would on a weekend, eats an enormous fry-up and then takes his place behind the bar.

Bugger off. I'm only doing this to punish a bastard. Prove you're not one and you might get half off.

To be honest, he doesn't mind doing this. It's quite fun and he gets to spend the day drinking, sometimes for free.
