New Year's Party!

Sometimes it's easy to forget just how far the magic of the Bar extends into the space beyond, the spaces made up of so many different magics from so many different worlds. It's as easy to forget as the fact that time moves differently in Milliways than in the feeder worlds, so a patron may be coming from, say, a warm Caribbean spring and find themselves in a place celebrating the close of a calendar year.

When the Dutchman rises into view at the Caribbean inlet, the Captain is surprised by the appearance of a bar napkin, that reads:

New Year's Party: You're hosting.

And the rigging is soon resplendant with strange lights that don't burn, but that do flash different colours with irritating arhythmia. Will raises his eyebrows at the note, but accepts his duty resignedly. At least this way he'll get to attend.

The same writing-on-napkin approach that informed Will he was playing host tonight, has presumably told people in the bar that the party atmosphere is at sea tonight. The Dutchman is brought alongside the jetty, lights showing the way, and the ladder permanently down to welcome people aboard.

The Deck

Mingle! Converse! Dance! (if someone provides music) Throw your friends overboard! (It's the Caribbean. Even in January, the water's warm)

Captain Turner's Cabin

Considering none of the crew require sustenance, the Dutchman doesn't lack for food and drink. Admittedly, it's all salvaged from fatal shipwrecks, so while the wine and rum flows freely, the food runs to the salty side. We can but hope someone thought to bring party food from the bar.

There's also a large and resplendent pipe organ, just waiting for someone to play it.

Below Decks

Nothing to see here, move along.

Why anyone would want to go somewhere quiet, dark and empty in the middle of a party is beyond us.

"This is awesome!"

Ava has broken out the black and sparkly Oscar de la Grouch Renta that she got with Bela. Work iiiiiit!

She checks her napkin. "Well. I guess this beats what I was going to be doing."

"And what were you going to be doing?" asks the Pirate Captain welcoming Ava on board. He'd agree; he wasn't planning on doing anything himself.

Ava may have only been intending to talk to herself. As such, her hand flies to her collar and she glances up with sllllightly wide eyes.

Then she smiles. "Uh-- well, sit in the bar, drink alone, contemplate my life?"

Swap in practice with the demons for the last one, and you've basically got the idea.

"Then I'm glad you joined us," says Will with a charming (if witless) smile. "Can I get you something to drink?"

Ava beams. "Totally."

Pause.

"What do you have?" She's heard a rumor dudes on ships only drink grog.

[turned_captain]

Not on this ship. That would be a crime to the rum.

"Wine, and rum," Will says, almost apologetically. "We don't get many visitors."

[hadyougoing]

She knows what both of those things are!

"Oh I like rum," she says. "Rum would be great."

[turned_captain]

He grins at her and disappears for a second into his cabin - unless she follows him. Either way, rum is poured from a wide bottomed bottle into a goblet.

"I don't think I have enough for a bottle each. At least not if Jack turns up."

Ava laughs, startled.

"Okay buddy, I don't know what girls you've been hanging out with, but my upper limit is four or five." That's half a bottle at most, right? "Who's Jack?"

(She presumes an alcoholic.)

Urquhart climbs the ladder, curious about the big ship.

He's heard about the ship that ferries the dead, as that annoying Ostrogoth put it, but never seen it.

He climbs over the railing and looks around.

"Hello," Urquhart says, seeing her, and smiling widely.

"Pretty dress!"

As it's a party, Dinah has decided not, for once, to show off her legs. Instead she's opted for the leather pants and loose shirt look that places her visibly in her particular time period. Though as these are leather pants she wears on her motorbike, the effect is less partyish than it might be.

Still, she brought a bottle and a tray of party food, so she feels that the effort is enough. It's with a glass of wine in hand that she discovers how beautiufl the lake looks from the poop deck.

"Jack Sparrow," Will offers, apparently not quite believing a woman hasn't met him.

"Captain Jack Sparrow. He has a habit of appearing where rum is mentioned.

"Or whervever else he can make a nuisance of himself."

A pipe organ...an honest to god pipe organ. Like in his old church. Like in that old movie with Captain Nemo. Like in every really cool old horror film.

"OK, I bet I can figure this out."

She has her rum by now. It's a good night.

Teja had come on board, nodded to those already present, and gone straight to the Captain's cabin, and the pipe organ.

He is sitting there now, playing dramatic music.

Ako hasn't shed her entire collection of winter outerwear she wore for the trip from the bar to the inlet by the time she gets to the ladder. So it is with a scarf around her neck and a pair of boots in hand that she looks at the ladder.

"I should have brought a bag."

There is a woman with pink ends in her hair, wearing tons of make-up and artificial fairy wings, climbing the ladder with big stompy boots.
