It's been One Of Those Days, back home. You know the ones we mean--the ones where everything goes wrong. Even the little mundane things that don't really matter, just to add insult to injury.

Alyx doesn't want to talk about it. She just trudges up to the bar and hefts herself onto a stool. "Chicory coffee," she mumbles. "And if you've got something to take my mind off this miserable day."

The mug of chicory appears, as does... is that a catalog? It is. With a model in a... very interesting dress on the front.

As Alyx thumbs through the catalog, her sour expression melts away, to be replaced with... well, she seems to be caught somewhere between shock, confusion, and hysterical laughter.

It's certainly keeping her mind off her troubles, at least.

"And you would look good in something covered in silver sequins," Gordon returns. "Which I'm sure is in here somewhere."

"...what's a sequin."

Gordon turns a few more pages.

"See what that's covered in?" he says. "Those are sequins. Usually they're smaller."

Alyx frowns. "Are those metal? Or do they just look like they are? --and please tell me there's actual fabric under all that."

"They're... I think they're plastic painted with metallic paint. Or they might be flakes of metal, I'm not sure," Gordon says. "They're all sewn to a fabric dress underneath."

"How do you wash something like that?"

"No clue," Gordon says. "Never owned anything that had them on it."

Except, for two brief weeks in the mid-1980s, a Make Your Own Michael Jackson Glove kit. It didn't last long.

"Honestly. The things people used to waste their time making--why the hell is there a BABY in this picture??"

"...."

Gordon shakes his head like a dog emerging from water.

"I have absolutely no idea."

Alyx leans back. "No. That just--no."

"Babies are people, not accessories," Gordon says firmly. "If the people getting married have babies at the time, they should be left in the care of somebody reliable until the ceremony is over. They're too young to have to go through anything formal like that."

"I'm not even convinced that it's hers. I mean, the way she's holding it it looks like she's gonna drop it."

"No kidding," Gordon mutters, and moves to slide an arm around Alyx's shoulders.

Well, to get a better look at the page, really. The other thing's just bonus material.

Alyx slides one arm into the small of Gordon's back and rests the other hand on her belly.

"Promise me you won't let me treat our kids like that?"

"I don't think that's going to be a problem," Gordon murmurs. "But sure. I promise."

"Thanks." Alyx leans her head against Gordon, her eyes half-closed.

Gordon takes the opportunity to kiss the top of her head gently.

"You'll be fine. I know you will. I know you well enough by now to know that."

A faint smile tugs at the corner of Alyx's mouth. "I guess I need to be reminded of that every once in a while."

"I'll keep that in mind," Gordon says. "Especially at three in the morning. I understand that's going to figure fairly large in our future."

Not that he sleeps much anyway- more these days than he used to, sure, but it's still fairly few hours compared to most people.

Alyx huffs a quiet laugh. "That I can do without being reminded of for the next few weeks."

"We'll have other things to keep us busy," Gordon says. "I'll try not to bring the prospect up. You don't need extra worries."

Alyx turns a little so she can reach up and playfully ruffle Gordon's hair. "I've got you well trained, I see."

Gordon just smiles at that, and leans in to kiss her. Words are vastly overrated.
