Leo Fudou is hypnotised by the bar's television.

Currently playing is Tentacle of our Waves, in which a pink squid (which, Leo gathers from the scenario playing out, is considered somewhat fetching) is fending off two suitors, one of which is her father, although neither knows it.

There's an abandoned book next to him, with text in an odd language on the front. It seems to have been forgotten about.


Atton Rand is on his back in the rafters, fiddling with a device of some kind.

It looks a bit like a car engine crossed with an accordion, and every so often it splutters out a series of blue sparks and makes a rather unpleasant grinding noise. Atton makes a few shushing sounds every time it does.

"Calm down," he mumbles after a particularly violent spray of sparks (followed, perhaps oddly, by a spray of purple glitter).

"It may sound dull," Antinoos says, "but we're civilised people who live in peace and all obey the same laws. The economy is doing well, and the roads are safe. Life is enjoyable. It may be dull, but I like it."

"Ugh. Don't you have any fighting? Stealing? Emperors being unseemly and getting assassinated?"

"All of that, at various times, but we try to keep it down," Antinoos says. "Especially with the assassination of unseemly emperors."

A new thing to worry about -- of course it would be unseemly of Hadrian to keep him around, and then somebody might assassinate him! Antinoos doesn't want to buy his own life with his lover's.

"Ugh. Your world is dull! It should breed with the colour grey."

"My world is lots of fun, and still very dangerous in parts," Antinoos says. "Have you ever hunted lions?"

"Boring, maybe I should just set you on fire," Atton says, pulling a lighter from his jacket. "I don't even know what a lion is, man."

"A big, dangerous cat-like predator," Antinoos says. He doesn't know what a lighter is, so remains unscared.
