(no subject)

Darius is a bit hesitant when he comes into the bar this evening. He's still settling in in District Twelve, and it seems like he keeps walking down the wrong corridor. Whether he did or not tonight, he'll never know, since the corridor in question seems to be that fascinating bar. He's not at all unhappy about this. Nor is he unhappy about the napkin that pops up asking him to tend bar.

He's still trying to figure out this bartending schtick, so he decides on a creative specials board.

1/2 off any drink if you let me pick what goes into it

This way, he can learn what tastes good and what doesn't, right?

Demeter smiles at the young man behind the counter, "I'd love to see what you can create for me."

"Excellent!" He grins at her in return. "Just so I have somewhere to start, what sorts of things are you generally looking for in a drink?"

"Something that tastes of Summer and is cooling. I've spent all day in my garden."

"Right. Let me think on it a minute."

He turns to look at what they have and ends up taking some lemonade and adding some vodka (because it's clear, and that's somewhat familiar) and then a few raspberries just because...well, there are raspberries here, and that feels like a luxury.

"Tell me what you think?"

She takes a sip and beams at him before leaning across the counter,

"Delicious, care for a taste?"

He easily returns that smile, leaning in a bit himself. "If you promise it won't kill me..."

"I promise. I deal in life, dear," Then she closes the distance between them and kisses him.

He returns the kiss as well, laughing a bit when he pulls back, surprised. "Is that the customary way to pay for a drink? Because if it is, I missed out last time."

"No, I just wanted to kiss you. I hope you don't mind,"

She's feeling in the mood for someone new today and he's young and full of life.

"I never mind when a beautiful woman kisses me." Not that he looks old enough to have kissed many beautiful women.

Which was another reason she kissed him, he needs more kisses in his life,

"What's your name? I'm Demeter."

"Darius," he answers with another smile. "Nice to meet you."

"I agree, it's a pleasure. Tell me of where you're from, Darius,"

His name is Roman but he doesn't feel or look Roman.

"It certainly is."

He steals her glass to have a quick drink. "It's called Panem? I think it's pretty far in the future for a lot of people here."

"Panem, it's a lovely name."

"Is it? I suppose it's all right. Where are you from?"

"Yes, it means bread and that's something I find rather important. A place called Provence in a country known as France."

He laughs at that. "It means bread, hm? Are you a baker, then?"

"Yes and I have a lot of love for farmers."

He winks at her. "Too bad I'm not a farmer, then."

"No, but you don't have to be. Tell me about who you are, Darius,"

She takes a sip of her drink but doesn't move it far from him.

"I'm...a Peacekeeper." He's just starting to get used to the idea that this means most people don't like him particularly much.

"What does that mean in Panem?"

"It's the military."

Except that they're never at war, so the peace they keep is withing Panem's borders.

"Oh, you don't seem like a soldier," He has too much laughter in him.
