It's time to go back. There's a world that needs saving, and while Steve has enjoyed a few days of indulgence, his call to duty is stronger.
He has a few things to drop off first. The key to the room he ended up barely using--"I know, I know," he says to the Bar--and then a few envelopes.
Dear Ellen,
I'm sorry I've been so bad at keeping in touch! I think about you a lot and I hope you're doing well. I thought you might like a few more pictures of where I am now.
Take care,
Steve Rogers
Along with the note are a few watercolors: the mountains of Italy, the forests of Austria, the Eiffel Tower of Orpheus's time, lit up at night. (On this one, Steve has noted in big, comic-book-type letters, The City of Lights.)
Dear Sallie,
I feel like I haven't seen you in forever! I want to let you know everything's going fantastically with my friend and I'm really happy. Included is a token of my appreciation for your advice.
Yours,
Steve Rogers
Enclosed is a pencil drawing: a closeup of Sallie's hands combing Tequila's mane.
Sweetheart,
For when you miss me. I miss you already.
Yours always,
Steve
The drawing is colored pencils, a rear view of the two of them in the chairs around the big fountain at the Tulleries in Paris. The two figures are barely touching, but the way their heads are inclined toward each other says it all.
With that, Steve pulls down his cowl, picks up his shield, and goes through the door.
