Amy has hot chocolate, pizza, and a pile of correspondence she brought along in the hopes of getting somewhat caught up after being away from home for nearly a month.

At least, that was the plan.

Now that she's here, though, it's hard to find any enthusiasm at all for the papers on her table, so she's largely ignoring them while she looks around the bar.

After all, there's always something interesting going on at the end of the universe.

And anyway, they'll keep.

"I'd not thought of that," Amy says.

"Perhaps I shall have to try to introduce it at the next ball."

Watching everyone deal with sauce on their gloves would be entertaining, at least.

"I would think it would be simple for a good baker to make. I might have to try and see what I can figure out as I haven't been baking enough,"

There's been too much work that's taken up all of his time.

"I'm a bit of a disaster, as a baker.

"I do all right if there's someone who knows what to do, and who is telling me very precisely.

"But leave me on my own, and it all goes very wrong."

"Oh, its always been one of my favorite things to do as well as for a time the only way I could have many items,"

Mrs Beaver baked too during the reign of the White Witch but he never felt comfortable asking to share anything unless it was over tea. That would have been too much of an imposition.

"I've always been fortunate enough to have other people to do the baking for me.

"I'm surprisingly good at shelling peas, though."

"That's a skill that will please any cook as peas require too much work."

"I used to be a kitchen maid," Amy says.

"There were a lot of peas in those days.

"I still occasionally ask Bar for a bowl to shell.

"There's something very soothing about it."

"Yes, or making biscuits or scones. My father used to have me doing that when I was little and he didn't want me in the way. He would give me a bowl to stir and stir."

"It sounds like a nice memory."

"It was, he was a great man. I try to be as good as he was."

"I'm sure he'd be very proud of that.

"It's the sort of way I'd like my children to talk about me, someday."

"I am certain that they will,"

She's considered a sister by a king of Narnia and a kind and wonderful woman, its obvious to Tumnus that her family must see how great she is.

"Thank you.

"I certainly hope so."

"I think if you are yourself, that will be enough. I find that's true enough of Lucy and her siblings. They do best when they trust what they know, because they are wiser than they realize."

"But imagine how dangerous the opposite would be. If they were not as wise as they imagined, and insisted that they were."

Humility is not a bad thing, in a monarch.

"Yes, they have always been aware of how much rests upon them and always try their best. I do my own part to help when I can usually by simply reminding them of what they have accomplished."

"Which is very useful.

"It can be hard to see how much you've done, when you're looking at all there is still to do."

"Yes, and I do try to remind them when they feel unsure by showing what they have done fits into Narnian history."

Amy thinks about that for a moment.

"How do you mean?"

"That other rulers have been confused by the elves and figured something out. None of our kings and queens have known what to do the first time and learning what's best for Narnia is part of being royalty, also that things that might seem like they don't make a difference truly do."

Amy tilts her head, curiously, to one side.

"Don't your kings learn to rule from their parents?"

Because that's one of Amy's and Perry's chief duties -- making sure Merry will be ready to ascend the throne of Ambergeldar when the time comes.

"No, they came from the land of Spare Oom to rule Narnia after they defeated the White Witch."

"No, I knew that about the Pevensies," Amy says.

She knew the Pevensies, once upon a time.

"But the other rulers you spoke of . . . is that true of them as well?"

"Oh yes, most of the rulers have Narnia came through their families and the few histories that remain, I share."

"Oh, I see."
