The door opens on the green hills of Gotland, with the sea in the distance, and a wide wooden hall hunched between the hills. A man with an axe over his shoulder walks into Milliways.
He is tall, with his hair shorn on the sides of his head, and the rest twisted into a long, stiff braid. There are a few minor scars on his face, and his eyes are a piercing, unsettling blue.
He stops just behind the threshold, door open still, and looks at everything he sees with the collected distrust of somebody who will not show his startlement, however great it may be, before strangers who might immediately use it against him.
Then, he grins, and takes a few steps inside.
