There's a notice on the board today which reads:

Sam's Fight Club today, out back.
Rules:
1. This is intended as friendly matches. No grudges and either party can break if they feel the fight is becoming too personal.
2. Gloves are provided but not required. Fight at your own risk.
3. At least one person with medial training is on hand if things go badly.
4. Keep it friendly.
5. If you have super powers/abilities, please let us know so we can set you up with someone else who has them.

Also, since Sam is more aware of how Milliways works, he leaves a note for the first Security personal to hit Bar today, which reads much the same as the notice he posted on the board with an added line that he will cancel the whole thing if they feel it violates any rules or whatever.

As for the man himself, he's out back marking off several fighting circles in dusty patches of the grounds. He's also wearing light sparing gloves (since he's more active with the Avengers and needs to be combat ready) and has set up a few coolers with iced water.

[OOC: Party style post. Sam is available but I encourage you to spar with any who are willing. Also, post open until it scrolls or folks get tired of fighting. Sam will be scarce overnight though.]

...whoever this Sam person is, he is also Harry Percy's new best friend. Sure, it looks to be hand-to-hand rather than swords, but he'll take what he can get. He could use the practice!

So enter one Hotspur, looking much more cheerful than usual.

Huh.

Ellen's gonna go get her hockey stick and ask the Bar for a pair of those huge gauntlety-looking glove things she saw the man in the winged-wheel shirt wearing. Maybe she can practice against somebody with them.

Sam gives a nod when he sees Harry heading his way.

"Morning," he offers once Harry is in ear shot. "Looking to dust your knuckles?"

[OOC: Just heading to lunch now, but I'll be back in an hour.]

[ooc: no worries!]

"Brush away the dust, rather!" Harry replies brightly. "Such dust as is acquired through winter and idleness."

Autor's out there, spoiling for a fight and looking for Yamato. The boy laces up his gloves and glances around, seeing if anyone wants to spar.

X chooses to go without gloves -- minus the fingerless black ones she's already got on.

She does take her boots off, however, curling her toes into the dirt.

Sparring is always welcome.

Iiiiinteresting. In the grand ranking of Alistair's Out Of Practice At ______, the list goes something like:

1) Two-handed weapons
2) Archery
3) Avoiding anything that involves a tripwire, leg trap, or pressure plate
4) Hand-to-hand combat

In fact, the last time Alistair did any hand-to-hand at all was probably back at the Chantry. (Well, unless you count that time he and Lyna punched their way out of a jail cell. That was fun!) Could be worth brushing up on his skills a bit, right?

He spots a familiar face among the gathering crowd -- one of the men who got trapped in the blizzard; Curtis, was it? -- and drifts that way. Fairly soon, they're making amiable enough conversation, punctuated by little things like I'm glad to see you're well and yes, it really was ice spiders and Andraste's tits your whole arm is made of metal?!

[ooc: tag either/or, just specify whether you'd like Curtis or Alistair!]

"Harry."

X looks at him from the center of a nearby circle, head tilting very slightly.

She might be waiting.

Harry approaches, and offers a shallow bow. "Mistress X."

"X," she corrects.

"Please."

Too many supervillains use the 'mistress' appellation.

X tilts her head at him from the center of one of the circles.

He's welcome, if he wants.

X also drifts in their direction, gaze flicking from one to the other.

Then --

"One of you wants to spar? With me."

X studies the gloves, head tilting after a moment or two.

Then --

"You want to try? Them. I will be careful."

Of herself as well as Ellen. Whichever is more necessary. Or important.

"Your pardon." He grins. "And now must you challenge me, for this grave insult?"

"No," she says, matter-of-factly.

"But I can. If you require a pretext."

Hey, someone who's worse at jokes than him! That's nice.

"I need none, save your good will to fight."

Autor notices her inviting him and heads on over. "I'll spar you, but I suspect you'll not get much of a fight out of it."

Worse or more subtle, pick one.

"Okay."

Beat.

"I will be careful."

It's a promise.

X shrugs, one-shouldered and quick.

"That is not what I want."

Beat.

"I can teach."

This next pause is longer.

"And you will not have to worry. About hurting me."

"That's good," Autor says, raising his hands to protect his face. "If I manage to get a hit on you, I'll be surprised. But teaching would be useful. I welcome that, thank you."

"I teach by example."

It's only the truth.

"You will probably not be grateful. Later."

So many muscle aches. Or so she's heard.

Autor stiffens, straightening his shoulders from their characteristic hunch. "I can stand being a little sore if it means that I learned something."

"I hear you," Sam replies finishing up the circle. He bounces on his feet and shakes his shoulders out. "I'm up for a go, unless you'd rather wait for someone else."

Sam comes over, stretching out his arms after his bought with Harry.

"Hey X," he says by way of greeting. "I guess this is kosher with Security then?"

He might be up for a fight as well, but thought it'd be good to ask first.

"No, I am glad indeed to face a new opponent." And he offers a polite bow. "My training is in the sword, but I have these past months learned what I could of sparring unarmed."
