It's been a... pretty crazy month.

For anyone who needs to decompress, there is a circle of chairs, a big selection of hot chocolate and other drinks, with marshmallows and chocolate flakes. There's cake and biscuits too, for those who fancy a snack.

Guppy has left his phone at home today, so no unwanted alarms going off. He's sitting with a hot chocolate, blowing it to cool it down.

Gabriel's left his kit with Bar for the moment so it's just him in his army fatigues. The sign and hot chocolate both catch his attention but he didn't see any reference to this in the pamphlet Baze gave him. The pamphlet is currently sticking out of a side pocket in his trousers.

"What's the deal here?" He asks Guppy curiously.

"Free food and a safe space to talk." Guppy says, waving him over and offering him a drink. "I'm Guppy."

He likes hot chocolate, though it's the wrong time of year on his side of the door for it.

"Gabriel," he answers as he looks over the table. "There any with cayenne?"

"Cayenne? I'm sure there can be!" Guppy says, asking a waitrat to bring some. "That'll certainly warm you up!"

"...not used to that yet," Gabriel mutters. Rats are not good things where he's from.

"You the doctor the pamphlet mentions?" He taps the paper in his pocket.

"I've not looked at it recently, but almost certainly yes." Guppy says. "I'm one of the co-heads of the infirmary."

"Strange for a bar to have an infirmary. People get hurt here often?"

The rat returns with the cayenne. He offers it a thanks (still weird) and starts making his cocoa.

"More often people get hurt outside, and come here for help." Guppy says. "But people do get hurt here too, especially if they're of a fighting sort of temperament."

That he could come here for medical help hadn't occurred to him yet. That opens all sorts of interesting possibilities. If he could get here whenever he wanted, anyway.

"Got it. Does the cost just get added to your tab?" He blows on his chocolate before taking a sip. Mm, perfect.

"No, the bar covers it." Guppy says. "We're a volunteer service, so it's mainly emergencies and stuff people can't get outside, and a bit of antenatal care, but we don't turn many things down. Occasionally someone will try and wangle prescription drugs for illicit purposes or something, and obviously we say no to that."

"Obviously. That's real good of you guys." He nods approvingly. "I take it that means the Door can open pretty randomly if it catches people needing medical attention. There a way to control it any? It's only my first time in." He gestures with his mug. "This is supposed to be my barracks."

"Thanks. People have done the same for me so it balances out." Guppy sips his chocolate.

"Some people swear by taking a bottle cap or something from here out there, but for others it's totally random. It does tend to pick people up in a crisis though. You're doing well for your first time here, welcome to Milliways."

"Thanks. Got the pamphlet and the talk from a couple of security members. Plus there's at least one video game on my world that deals with a similar concept." Heroes of the Storm just has characters from Blizzard games in it, though.

He shrugs. "Multiverse isn't that unusual if you're into fiction."

He'll have to try grabbing a cap or coaster or something. Being able to come here whenever he needs to could be damn useful.

Guppy laughs. "Then you're in a better position than I was. I was woefully behind on my fiction. Speaking of which, if you bump into anyone who in your world is fictional, it's generally good manners not to tell them."

He grins a little wryly as Guppy confirms that for him.

"I was having suspicions, but yeah, I can keep those to myself." He shakes his head amused acceptance. "Course, could still be just some dream. Be the easier explanation."

Not that he thinks it is but he's a big fan of Occam's Razor. Dream seems more likely than superheros, magic, and the Force being a thing.

Guppy laughs. "You know, some people don't believe it for weeks."

Gabriel shrugs again. "No harm in enjoying it, real or not. Plus I can get things I can't get at home right now." He raises his coca mug to demostrate.

"Where is home for you?" Guppy asks.

"Kansas," he answers, making a face.

"But I'm from L.A." He pauses. "On Earth."

It feels really weird to add that.

"Holby, England. You should catch up with Bonnie, she's from LA." Guppy says.

"Hopefully not my L.A.," he says grimly, his face growing dark. "Got a robot apocalypse on our hands at the moment." It's only a slight exaggeration, especially if things keep going the way they have.

"What's she look like?"

"Oh no, nothing like that. They only just invented the washing machine. She's petite, short hair, usually wears overalls." Guppy says.

"Seriously? That must've been like 200 years ago." He has no idea when washing machines were invented but the 1840s doesn't seem like too bad a guess. Still, that's not going to be an L.A. he knows.

"I might have got the tech wrong: I think she's from the fifties."

"Oh, well, that's only a hundred years ago," Gabe says dryly. Then he laughs. "Jeez, this place."

Guppy laughs.

"Welcome to Milliways."
