Apropos limps down the steps from the rooms, staff clutched carefully with three fingers as the other two hold a book. He's reading rather intently, other hand going through vague motions as he does. Eventually he finds his way through memory to the couches, where he sits and continues with his work.

*Polly wanders over and plops down on the floor in fron to the couches, she just watches him, He looks busy.*

He continues to fiddle about, swirling his fingers around. Finally, after a moment, a red and black fire begins to appear from his finger, trailing in a line as if ink from a pen. He draws the complex symbol...and grins into the book. He goes to look at something...and notices her.

Oh.

Oh shit.

"Polly?"

Uh huh.

*she is a little impressed and in awe watching him*

Go on and do what you're doing, I was just watching.

*she smiles*

He blinks...and then he does as she said. He can't really remember what happened with her, but he remembers a very large chunk of him acting like an absolute idiot with her and he has a feeling he knows where that lead and he's rather scared to find out if he's right.

So he continues to write runes in the air. After a single failed attempt that almost burns his hand, he snarls lightly and weaves a small levitation spell around the book so that he can attempt it with both hands. This proves a little better...and he unravels it before finishing since he knew it would work as it was.

*she just watches she is mesmerized, completely*

He blinks down at her.

"Yes?"

*she frowns*

What, I was just watching?
You don't want me to watch?
Fine, I'll leave.

*she is a little snappy*

Gretchen plops down into one of the big easy chairs.

"Hello, Peacelord."

He blinks at her.

"What are you so snappy about, woman? I was just wondering. It's not as if this is particularly interesting. Swirl of the hand and a little bit of fireworks. Nothing special."

He rolls his eyes and shrugs, looking back to his books.

"If you're in a mood, you certainly can leave. Otherwise..."

He smiles at her absently, looking away from the book to smirk at her.

"Why hello, my dearest and darling not!friend Gretchen. How are you this fine night?"

She smirks back. She's a surly teen, she's pretty good at it.

"Restless and bored. How have you been?"

Yeah, but I was enjoying watching it. Not in a mood. I'm sorry for snapping.

I know, you're a bitter mean person, I know that, I get that. and I know, what I saw the other day was not typical. But, I still like you. So, you'll just have to deal with it.

*she grins*

He stills.

So she knows he wasn't...wasn't himself.

And she still likes him?

Something...something inside of him sort of blinks, a strange confusion in him. That sensation, the love he'd had for her was as artificial as Sharee's desire for him when he'd had the ring, as artificial as his immortality with the Eye or his safety in the village at Chinpan.

But she knew he was a bitter son of a whore and she was still looking at him like that?

He blinks.

"Oh. I see."

He turns back to the book and continues to work, face just the tiniest bit flushed.

"Slept with a beautiful young thing the other night due to a bit of irritating magic by a god who needs to spend more time with his hand in his breeches instead of on the lives of others. Just about normal for me."

He continues to work.

"Learning magic at the moment, much to my chagrin. And even more to my chagrin, I'm finding I'm rather good at it. Figure that."

*she watches him*

I can leave if you'd like, I just needed to tell you.

*she smiles again*

"You're rather confusing."

His head is still in the book, held so that she can't see his face.

"I have explained previously that I'm a bitter and hateful son of a whore that would just as soon stab you in the back as smile at you as long as it meant that I got to live another day, no?"

Yep, I think you have made that very clear. and if you had known some of the men I have been involved with, you would understand why I'm not really that concerned. you can't really stab me here and the truth is I am just as loathesome in my own way.

She quirks an eyebrow.

"Sounds like I've missed a lot in the last couple of days. I need to get out more."

She looks at what he's doing.

"I thought you had to be born with magic to be able to do it."

He snorts

"Really. Explain that, please, because I'd like to know how you could possibly equate all the dead people who can pin the very reason for their deadness on me clear as day. Honestly, I'd love to hear it."

He rolls his eyes.

"I was. I've just never had the chance to actually learn how to use it, and the other half part of it was chucked into my body by a mad goddess. Add into that the fact that I got the gift of weaving from my father, who I'd gladly spit on a skewer at the first available opportunity, and realize that I've never had time to sit down and learn much of anything while this that or the other thing was trying to kill me, and it all adds to why I can learn it now."

*she rolls her eyes.*

I was being figurative. I have not killed anyone. But believe me I am not nice. And you make it almost impossible to like you and yet for some reason and I don't know why, I do like you. You don't deserve it but Oh well. you can very easily tell me to fuck off, but you haven't yet and i wonder why? I mean you are a cruel and bitter prick, so why not tell me to leave?

"You lead a busy life. Good thing that Death takes a holiday here."

"Because I'm not cruel, just defensive, and rightfully so. And I'm not a prick so much as a decently well-endowed man. Further, my bitterness is fully justified as well. And I haven't told you to go away because you're probably the only one who's actually had to ask me that question."

Fine, I never said you weren't justified in any of it, I just said I liked you anyway.

So would youjust shut up and let me.

*with that she gets up and sits on the couch next to him, she kisses him but she pulls away very fast cause she has no idea how he's gonna react*

"Yes, well, I must agree with you there."
