(no subject)
Enter one sunburned pilot in an obvious hurry, several sheets of paper in hand. He makes a beeline for the Bar and drops the papers on it.
"Hey, can you give these to Lilly Kane for me?"
, CAP'N KANE,
WELCOME ABOARD THE ROSE, YOUR BRAND-NEW (BY WHICH I MEAN THIRD-HAND) GRIFFIN TRANSPORT. SHE'S A MIDBULK CLASS 11-T17 -- SADLY, YOU MADE THE MISTAKE OF BUYING SOMETHING WITH A GURTSLER ENGINE, BUT NOBODY'S PERFECT. THEY STARTED BUILDING THESE IN 2511, WHICH'LL MAKE HER ALMOST EIGHT YEARS OLD. IT MIGHT BE HARD TO STEER THROUGH SOME TIGHT SPOTS, AND SHE'LL SHAKE LIKE ALL HELL WHEN YOU'RE BREAKING ATMO, BUT SHE'S STILL SKYWORTHY.
HERE ARE THE BLUEPRINTS: LEARN 'EM, LIVE 'EM, LOVE 'EM. YES, EVEN THE CHINESE BITS THAT MAKE NO SENSE AND WON'T LOVE YOU BACK. (SPEAKING OF WHICH, I'VE INCLUDED A FEW BASIC TRANSLATIONS. CAN I BE A MEAN, HARSH INSTRUCTOR AND GIVES YOU A QUIZ LATER WITH LITTLE MULTIPLE-CHOICE BUBBLES AND EVERYTHING? I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO DO THAT TO SOMEBODY.)
STILL WORKING ON THE ACTUAL CONTACT PART OF THIS WACKY ADVENTURE, BUT I'LL LET YOU KNOW ONCE THAT'S TOGETHER.
TALK TO YOU SOON,
--WASH
As promised, there are detailed blueprints for a Griffin transport included with the note. The digital paper it's stored on affords a three-dimensional view that can be rotated, zoomed in on, and shifted from wireframe to solid and back again. The specs are mostly in Chinese, but Wash has scribbled in translations where applicable.
On a separate sheet of ordinary paper is a list of Chinese phrases, spelled out phonetically, that Lilly might find useful during the course of the scam.
They disappear. Wash smiles, a bit tightly, and is already turning to go when another note appears. He blinks in puzzled surprise and picks it up.
A few moments pass in silence as he reads. Then he sinks onto a stool and puts his head in his hands, face equal parts concern and confusion as he reads it again.
Anybody want to explain to him just what in the gorram hell's going on here?
