On average, a human smith of no particular skill or its lack can turn out a tolerable basic sword- the Western sort- in the space of a week. One who has specialised in weapons and is familiar with the techniques necessary to produce pointy things that do not shatter on impact can produce a weapon of extremely high quality in that same time.

Dwarves have an affinity for metal and stone to begin with, and spend much of their lives in the study of craft. This particular dwarf has a lifetime's worth of weapons-work under his belt, admittedly interrupted here and there by fits of regrettably necessary warrior mayhem. And he's spent considerable time over the past nine and a half years working under the tutelage of some of the finest master-smiths in Valinor- and he's been working as apprentice to a certain fellow with a Mount Etna mailing address since not long after arriving at Milliways.

Care to guess what he can do in a week of forge-time?
