It's just the way he is. And it's not like there's anything bad going on right now, or anything particularly exciting. It's just living above the bar that brings him down here because why the hell not? Even people in perpetually bad moods can pretend to be sociable from time to time. Spike stands by the bar and taps it. "Hey, cup of coffee."
Bar doesn't fail. The coffee is hot and rich and black and tastes like a million Woolongs. Maybe even more. There's only one thing that would make it better, but that sure as hell isn't going to happen in the bar, so... he takes the cup into his hand, leans back on the bar, and watches people. It's what he does, it's what he's always done, and it's probably what he'll always do.
