She's staring at the night sky, as she often does - but this time, she's staring not at the stars, but at the moon.

She's been busy lately.

She's very glad that everything went smoothly, and that the crew of the Artemis II is back home, safe and sound. But most of all, she's happy that she was able to help inspire a sense of wonder and joy for the cosmos in the world again.

That's her job, after all.

comments

So you're telling me there's restless dead?" He asked, scrunching his nose at the idea of working here. He was under the impression that unless he was covering for Bar, that was generally frowned upon.

She tried again.

"Oooooh, there's a bunny yao. Wait, like the ones outside? Not the sort of creatures I'd be celebrating, but that's more of a them problem?"

She tried again.

"................. Laying eggs. Are you terribly sure it was a bunny?"

....

"Are you terribly sure it was eggs??" Look, he's eaten some entirely questionable things in the name of survival and vengence, but that was getting pretty hard up on the limit, and it definitely wasn't festival food.

She tried once more.

"... Oh. Ooooh. You just wanna do the party bit. I can get behind a party." Besides, the whole 'hiding eggs with treats inside' thing sounds like a lot of fun. She presented him with a very large basket crammed full of goodies, a bunch of pastel colored chalk for the blackboard, and one last note.

"Bunny ears? Yeah sure, why not?"

Within half a shi, he had a multitude of pastel plastic eggs hidden around the main barroom, filled with the treats that seemed to be for that purpose. In a few of them he also set up a little talisman to release tiny illusionary bunnies for a few moments. Look, he had the idea while he was making up the eggs and no one should rely on Wei Wuxian to refuse a creative impulse like that, come on now.

After that, he took up the spot behind the bar after properly decorating the blackboard and letting Bar know she could have some time off so long as no one wanted a complicated meal or something. He dumped the remainder of the candy in a giant bowl he liberated from the kitchen, setting it on the bartop for snacking.

He had his wine, he had his current talisman project, and he had some spicy pork dumplings to work through to offset the sweetness of his other treats.

He had also decorated the board. All while wearing the set of ears which Bar had provided for him. Very nice of her to color-coordinate for him.

Happy Egg-Laying Bunny Time!

Lotus Wine
Emperor's Smile
Green Snail Spring Tea

[OOC: As usual:

1. It's been a while since... a lot of things. Summer is waning and Autumn is licking at her heels. Or nipping. Or both. The Fool didn't know or care, really. He did lean up on the Bar's bar and said, "Perhaps a celebration of the in between time. Of one season ending and the other beginning?" He paused thoughtfully. "Or apples. Apple food? Food made from apples. For everyone?"

He's in an apple mood.

The bar is obliging and sets out a massive spread of apple related food and drink. To take a photograph is to participate in another person’s mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time’s relentless melt.")

(Content Warning for this OOM include: mentions of domestic violence and drug use, guns, threats of violence, blood, and death.)

Max still felt a little unmoored and light-headed by the time Chloe dropped her off and she stepped back through the doors of Blackwell again. And she wasn't ashamed at the heady relief that flooded her upon seeing Milliways instead of her school. She shouldn't feel that glad about it, but the morning had been... rough. More than rough.

She could still feel remembered terror like a knot in her chest, tightening her throat and turning her stomach. She wanted to scream. She... she kind of needed to scream. If she didn't let it out, it would just sit there in her throat, choking her while she struggled to focus in Mr. Jefferson's class.

So it wasn't so much an executive decision as something Max just did, then, when she made a detour by the couch to snag one of the thickest throw pillows, and took it with her to the bathroom. It was probably best to have a solid door between her and the rest of the place, even with the thick, fluffy pillow to help muffle the sound.

It helps, screaming. It really does. Screaming doesn't solve anything, but it does something. It puts raw effort and sound into what one keeps bottled up, what one can't explain. And once the seal is broken, everything starts to come out, it pours out. Even after her throat was sore and she had run out of energy to scream, she cried into that pillow until she was out of tears.

Eventually, after a long while, Max emerged from the bathroom. She had washed her face and dried her eyes. Her throat hurt, her eyes burned, and her head felt squashy from crying so hard, but she no longer felt like she was about to explode from pent-up... whatever that was.

She couldn't think of anything to order at first, when she approached the counter, standing there quietly with the pillow. Kindly, the Bar manifested a napkin asking if the pillow needed washing. Max ducked her head, grateful, and set the much-cried-upon pillow on the counter to be... whisked away to be cleaned, presumably.

Max was thirsty, but... she didn't want to sit, either. Instead of ordering from the bar, she made her way into the kitchen to make herself a cup of the strongest tea she could find.

comments

The little Air Nomad temple now shares its island with some of these trees as well. Flagstone paths wind their way up the mountainsides with occasional clearings in places that will provide a good view. At intervals along the paths and around the clearings are stone Japanese lanterns with lights that begin to glow at sunset and dim out at sunrise.

Clouds of pink and white sparks swarm and swirl over surfaces in the bar and certain areas outside, leaving new decorations, furniture, and other things. Inside the bar, the rafters are now hung with pink streamers and banners depicting five-petaled cherry blossoms. On the walls are Chinese and Japanese scroll paintings and prints of cherry blossoms. Blossom-shaped tea pastries, cherry pies, pink lemonade, and special tea both hot and iced are available free to all - as are bowls of the fruit themselves, of course, both pitted and fresh on the stem. Outside, pink and red sitting cushions appear in the lakeside pavillion. The larger mountain clearings, especially the ones overlooking cliffs, now have picnic tables and Adirondack chairs.

By the time the sun clears the horizon the next day, the buds on the trees have opened, and by noon the cherry trees are blooming in various shades of pink and white. Sakura are not generally known for their scent, but where they grow in such numbers, one can detect something floral and sweet in the air when the breeze blows just the right way.

[OOC: The Cherry Blossom All-Skate is now open! This is also a timed event for "canonical" posts that extends through next weekend, April 5-6.]

All your pups can enjoy the blossoms! Retired pups! Deleted pups! AU pups! Original characters! Whatever!

As usual:

1. Communication is key.
2. Gratuitous behaviour (either of a violent or sexual nature) will not be tolerated in the bar proper. Take that to an OOM, slap a content warning on it.
3. What happens in the All-Skate, stays in the All-Skates! Unless, that is, it happens between approved game characters and all muns agree.
4. Please don't be a dick.
5. You can ignore the theme if you want, but I hope you'll work it in!]

Tinytag: Cherry Blossoms

comments

And as night falls, the huge waves of the Forest gain their own form of seafoam, as the heavy raging clouds above them finally break open... and fall in glittering snow.

The snow falls all night, long after the storm has at last sighed itself into a whisper. When morning comes, the first shivering light falls on huge, perfect glittering drifts - from far over the mountains right to the door of the Bar.

Perfect, that is, except for a double set of pawprints, steadily marching to the door... where they become a single set of bootprints belonging to a beautiful, blue-eyed woman in a huge rosette-spotted white coat.

At the door she turns to survey her work, and smiles with the gentle satisfaction of a long night's job completed.

Welcome to Winter, Milliways.

[OOC: Welcome to the All-Skate: Winter Edition! All are welcome - yes, that means all. Whether they're retired, deleted, AU, original or already being played by someone else, bring 'em along. The snow will last until January-ish, both within the All-Skate and in the bar proper - but you're welcome to ignore it if it doesn't work for you.

Usual all-skate rules apply:
1. Everyone's stressed out of their mind right now, so have fun! Participating in theme/holiday shenanigans is also not required. <3
2. Communication is key.
3. Gratuitous behaviour (either of a violent or sexual nature) will not be tolerated in the bar proper. Take that to an OOM, and then Content Warning the hell out of it before you link it.
4. The warmer tints of gold and orange and vermillion appearing among the leaf-bedecked trees of the forest. The lengthening shadows and the surprising swiftness of evening. Do you smell that? The smell of damp earth, of warming spices and sharp alcohol. Do you feel that? The faint, promising chill in the breeze. The wanderlust longing for far-off places and the discovery of the unknown. The urge to plunder and loot and...

It can be easy to get carried away.

Today holds some surprises for those land-lubbers who find themselves in Milliways.

The bar itself is carrying a definite nautical theme in its decorations, and anyone paying attention might notice that at least one of the windows doesn't look out on either the lake area or the end of the universe, but out over the open ocean, rocking gently on unfelt waves under a cloudless sky. Seabirds call amid the sounds of waves and creaking wood. Large pots of spiced cider and rum simmer on the stove, filling the air with the scents of cinnamon and ginger, cloves and cardamom.

Outside, ripening pumpkins can be found scattered among the fading plants of the summer garden. In the open meadow between the bar and lake and forest, a tall and imposing corn maze has sprung up, somehow taking up far much more space than exists there. The cornstalks crowding its entrance rustle in the chill breeze, simultaneously inviting and foreboding, waiting to swallow any who dare step through.

The apple tree beside the Milliways greenhouse is heavy-laden with fruit, and the kitchen rats have set out half-barrels for anyone who wishes to seek out the prettiest and tastiest apples. One group of kitchen staff seem to have found an ancient cider press somewhere in the Milliways cellars, which is being prepared for use under Ivanhoe's meticulous supervision.

[OOC: Welcome to the All-Skate: Autumnal Pirate Edition! All are welcome - yes, that means all. Whether they're retired, deleted, AU, original or already being played by someone else, bring 'em along. There is so much one can do with the delightfully simple bread, so during the dough's first rise she assembled a wide array of potential toppings.

And now the dough has been separated into multiple pans for its second rise, Rae is decorating one of the pans of dough with starbursts of sliced olives and strips of sweet orange and red peppers on a sea of thinly-sliced herby cheese.

Max, who had technically only come in search of early-morning coffee, has succumbed to curiosity and is composing her own focaccia landscape with flowers made of halved cherry tomatoes and thin slivers of red onion, accented with basil leaves and sprigs of parsley.

Sunshine was glad of the help, but there were still three or four pans of dough to decorate while the oven preheated. It was Max's idea to put up the sign that soon adorns on the kitchen door:

"Delicious Dough Decorators Desired! Inquire within."

comments
