Before: Take one Kitsune, one Conspiracy Theorist, a Winnebago, and a desire to go on a road trip to check out odd sites you've heard about through Milliways. Well, the volcano was a bust, and some bikers may never be the same. But there are other places still on the list! One quick supply run later, and Laini and Mother are ready to attack Black Mesa- golf course, that is. However, things rarely follow the original plan- and the plan certainly didn't include Mother getting arrested.

It's been a few weeks since the last time Jamie was here. Most of that time's been taken up with the trip to check out Joris' world - meet the Elsies, look at Konstam and Vanessa going googly-eyed over each other, surreptitiously keep an eye out for any escaped Them - with a stop on the way back for some good old creema di leema and a nostalgic look at the old pantomime horse.

Next up: Helen's world (and that will be a barrel of laughs) and then off to some new ones in earnest, and for longer. He's got a job to do.

For right now, though, it can't hurt to drop by in Milliways for just a little while. Eat a basket of good chips. Catch up with some old friends. Maybe strategize a bit on how to get rid of any Them he finds holed up in various places around the universe.

(As of right now, his strategizing has gotten as far as doodling a scary hooded figure getting dismembered in a lot of very creative ways.)

After meeting up in the bar, Coyote brings her teams into her world, and the curtain goes up.

Team Distraction goes in first, bringing style, chaos, and murder along with them.

They're followed by Team Bait, the heavy hitters who carry enough ordnance to bring down the house.

And last but not least, Team Rescue, who delve into the back rooms of the Babylon Casino, in search of a ~~maiden~~ capable woman in somewhat less distress than you'd think...

So, where has Coyote been during all of this? Good question.

(Of course, no good show is complete without an epilogue.)

The sound of growling from through the door (and from the leg that is not yet visible in the bar) and then a yelp, presumably as the dog that has a hold on the leg of Riley's jeans realizes that the scenery has just changed dramatically. Still sight unseen, it lets go.

Predictable results occur.

These mainly involve pulling against something that is no longer pulling back, overbalancing, flailing, and a thud, in that order.

"I hate dating," Riley announces sourly to the ceiling, sprawled flat on his back.

Sometimes, you just concentrate better when surrounded by a few dozen people all talking, singing, drinking, joking, eating, and maybe fighting.

Laini is at a table with the guts of a gadget spread out in front of her and several tools near at hand.

And a cup of coffee blacker than the space past the dying stars outside the Window.

Alas, the coffee is just as cold.

The best magi-tech of Underhill certainly will answer any and all questions about what she is working on. Even more so if you have brought her a refill.

River is stretched out on a couch, lying on her side. Her hair tumbles across the arm of the sofa, and the fingers of one hand are curled loosely in the fringe of a cushion. She's relaxed, her body motionless except the slow, regular breathing; at a glance from the wrong angle, you might think she was asleep.

A closer look would show that her eyes are open, though. She's watching something in the middle distance with placid interest. (Either an empty table or even emptier air, apparently.)

Well, it seems that getting a connection to the 'net from Earthside here at Milliways is not quite possible-

At least yet, and Laini has already put that down on her list of things to investigate and fix asap.

But that would be the reason why the Fox is sitting at a table with a hard copy of the Yellow Pages, of all things, instead of searching through the listings online with her PDA. She is paging through it carefully- already the ink has smudged on her hands and causing her nose to wrinkle. Bleh.

At least Laini has some coffee right at hand.

John places his hand on the door outside, carefully--no cars in the driveway, his mom and Cameron aren't back yet. He glances to the left, keeping an eye on the street as he slips in through the door.

What the hell. He reaches back immediately to grab the door closing behind him and get out of whenever he is now (a bar? Why would someone build a bar here?). At least he's still got his clothes. But he's not looking, and he closes the door instead with a click.

John rattles the door handle, swearing quietly, for a few moments before (concious that there might be eyes on him), he straightens his shoulders and...tries to look like he fits in.

It doesn't work very well.

READMEs on parenting can only take you so far. Sooner or later, actual practice needs to enter the equation. And Bob and Dot would both prefer that some of that 'practice' happen before Mairi is born.

Which is why Bob is attempting to pin a diaper on a roughly baby-sized blue teddy bear.
