The little girl who just walked into the bar doesn't look too unusual at first glance. Just a dark-haired, hazel-eyed preteen girl in a hoodie, skirt, and leggings.

But then you look again and see that her leggings are peppermint sticks, her skirt is made of chocolate shavings, and her hair is tied with a licorice whip (and covered with assorted small candies). And she doesn't quite look... human, really.

That would be because she isn't. She's a video game character, and proud of it.

She looks around the room and grins broadly. "Oh, man. Tapper's is way cooler than Ralph said it was."

The city of Kirkwall is a fascinating place, full of ancient architecture, interesting people, and disturbing history. They don't call the former quarry and slave trade hub the City of Chains for nothing. These days things are different, but one matter still remains: wherever you go, when there aren't enough guards with a will to act and enough superiors to back them up, you get bandits.

And nobody really gets all that upset if bandits run into the kind of trouble that means they won't be coming home for supper ever again.

Anyway, that's the kind of work that keeps a body busy all day. Time for a break for both Varric and his newly minted human acquaintance to get a drink at the-

"This isn't the Hanged Man," says the dwarf in the doorway to the human woman behind him after checking both inside the door and outside. "Doesn't smell enough like rats and stale sweat. Hawke, did you do something?"

There's a purple, red-headed computer sprite outside, reclining on a big rock by the lake. She's not far from the edge of the forest. There are no seasons in cyberspace - no sun or clouds either - and Mouse enjoys experiencing them every so often.

She doesn't seem to be dressed for the autumn chill, but she doesn't mind. Sprites process faster when it's cold.

Botherable.

For the past couple of weeks, Bob has been making quick forays into Milliways on a regular basis, just long enough to confirm that a certain someone isn't downstairs yet.

Today, he's decided to stick around a little longer. It's been a busy cycle back home--three Games in a row--and he could use some downtime.

He's not exactly happy about being here, though. He may never be happy about being here again.

Mouse is outside, relaxing under a tree. If she were a mostly-hairless mammal like the majority of Milliways patrons, she'd be uncomfortably chilly, but computer sprites enjoy the cold. It makes them run faster.

Not that Mouse is making productive use of the cold right now. She's just basking.

The door slides open with a convincing if somewhat rattly 'woosh', and McCoy wanders in, scrubbing at his eyes with one hand and irritably thumping at where the light panel switch should be in his room.

When his hand hits wood instead of formed bulkhead, he freezes.

And actually looks around.

"Now, don't tell me after all that I'm actually goin' crazy."

(OOC: Annnnd he's back! Restarted from the beginning of the series, and no, I still haven't seen the movie (this week, promise), so... yes! One somewhat cranky good ol' Southern doctor, at your service.)

Mouse is sitting at a table by the Window, looking out at the dying stars and sipping a Blue Screen of Death.

The hacker has been in a bit of a funk recently. While the arrival of Mairi - Bob and Dot's baby - was an occasion of unadulterated joy for most of those close to the family, Mouse has reason to feel...ambivalent about it. Mairi doesn't seem to like Mouse very much, and Mouse thinks she's figured out why.

Even if things were fine on that front, Mouse would still be worried. Mairi's format is not completely unprecedented (there's her dad after all), but it's mostly unknown, and Mouse has been thinking about the possible implications. She wants to talk about this with Bob and/or Dot at some point, but it's not in her kernel to spoil their good mood - or give them yet another thing to be concerned about, beyond the things that most first-time parents with a new baby are concerned about.

Meanwhile, she's trying to do her thinking quietly and out of the way.

The door isn't so much opened quietly and politely as it is fractured down the middle and busted apart as a yellow, orange and red flying chunk of metal comes crashing through it, through several tables and chairs (and possibly patrons, deepest apologies for any and all injuries), until finally skidding to a stop on its knees with its hand digging into the floor.

There's the hum of a plasma cannon kicking back to life as the being (cyborg? Soldier in armor?) looks up just in time to see the door reforming.

The plasma cannon on its arm does not power down. Welcome to Milliways for the third time, Samus Aran.

When Enzo approaches the Bar seeking a power-up, he is presented with a small leather pouch. His processor cycles more rapidly as he fumbles it open to examine its contents.

Perfect.

There's also a slip of paper inside. Pay what he would for something similar in his own world, huh? Might help if he knew how much that was...

There's a stunning purple-skinned, red-static-haired woman sitting in a chair tipped on its two back legs, her booted feet up on the table in front of her. A glass of some exotic sprite cocktail sits beside said feet.

One could say she looks relaxed, except that it's hard to apply the word "relaxed" to anyone who's engaged in polishing the blade of a naked katana.

Sword aside, she's generally pretty friendly. Come say hello?

Out by the Caribbean inlet, there's a table full of party food (mostly matter, with one gluttonous portion of digital separated from it by a line of paper streamers) and a rented boombox emitting suitably raucous music.

Enzo Matrix, minus a little puppy fat and plus two inches and a modicum of jaw, is ~~mostly un~~dressed in a pair of dark blue swim trunks, with his icon stuck to one leg just above the hem. Even at this age, one can see the effect of Guardian training on his physique. He's feeling the latest round of changes to his body, stretching and pacing around a pile of flotation devices, beach balls, and pool noodles.

[OOM: A cycle or two ago, a pair of prodigal sprites returned. Accusations were made, bombs were dropped, and someone's sleeping on the couch for a while.]

With her impromptu vacation over and done with, AndrAIa enters the Bar with a bag full of souvenirs. She swings by the bar briefly and snags a Wikibrau before situating herself on one of the couches.

Those familiar with the Game sprite might just have something for them in that bag of hers.

Well, here's someone we haven't seen for a while.

Mouse is ensconced in a booth, typing away on a portable workstation with a mug of Java at her elbow. She's working on a new project, not as ambitious or radical as the kind of work she usually likes, but she's very engaged in the task nonetheless because it addresses a problem that's seriously ticking her off.

Lately, Mainframe's maintenance and security workers have been getting a lot of trouble from the so-called neo-Virals, a bunch of disgruntled and exceptionally BASIC binomes who used to work for Megabyte. The Neovirals have been sabotaging, vandalizing, smashing and generally fragging up bits of municipal infrastructure throughout the system, especially in Ghetty Prime, Megabyte's old territory. Last second a few of them hijacked a CPU car while the officers were investigating a call, and caused a lot of property damage, injury, and general ruckus before they finally totaled their ride and got collared by system authorities.

While Mouse engaged in quite a lot of destruction/vandalism/theft of public property herself back in her younger days, she has little sympathy for the neo-Virals. She is trying to use her technical skills and...particular sense of humor to find ways of preventing the neo-Virals from messing with power lines and the like.

She's botherable, especially if you can suggest an effective deterrent.

Last night, Enzo returned to his dorm at the end of an amazing spare cycle; Hugh took one look at his expression and said that if Enzo were older, he'd know exactly how he'd spent his day.

All cycle, between classes, people have been asking him what in the 'Net he's so happy about. (He can't tell them honestly, of course.) Several times people have waved hands in front of his face to get his attention, including teachers.

Now he's sitting at the Bar with an untouched energy shake, looking vaguely out over the barroom with the same enormous gooey smile.

You can ask what's up, but it's probably pretty easy to guess.

Mouse recently got an e-mail from Turbo pointing out that, according to the wording of her amnesty deal, she technically owes him open-source Mac and Linux versions of her Game management suite, as well as the Windows one she originally developed. She is not happy about this, especially since she recently figured out the mechanism behind Daemon's infection.

Perhaps Turbo knew full well that her condition of getting full credit for it was specifically intended to tweak him, and he just responded in kind. Bob might debate that point of view, but Mouse knows that even Guardians are not immune to petty feelings. And she's developed such an intense dislike for Turbo by now that she can't help but think the worst of him.

Right now she's taking a break from her work, sitting in a precariously-tipped-back chair with her feet on the table in front of her, looking out the Observation Window and drinking a sprite beverage with a strength equivalent to 100 proof liquor.

She's quite botherable. Just don't get her started on Turbo.

They seem to be missing an Alderaan, and hiding in the storage compartments waiting for stormtroopers to search the ship -- his ship -- his baby -- his Falcon! -- is making Han more than a little twitchy.

Mouse is at the Bar, sipping a Blue Screen of Death and looking incredibly pleased with herself. Pleased enough that she's likely to buy a drink for anyone she knows even vaguely, or any new acquaintance she takes a liking to. The sprite tends to spread her good moods - and celebratory alcohol - around.

Not too long ago, Bob gave Mouse an assignment. She's working on it. Been working on it for a while.

She's sitting at the Bar with a portable workstation. There are two VidWindows above it: the one on the left displays lines of blue and yellow code, while the one on the right shows code in a glowing, nasty-looking green. Mouse frowns and presses a key. The two VidWindows blink out and are replaced by a larger one, this showing blue and yellow code with green spliced in. Whatever Mouse is seeing, she doesn't like it.

Or maybe it's what she's not seeing that she doesn't like.

"Aw, fraggit," she mutters before shutting off the workstation, shutting her eyes and pinching the bridge of her nose. "Bar, gimmie a Snow Crash. If ya please." A glass of something that looks like liquid static appears beside her. She picks it up with a mumbled thanks and takes the distinctive swig of a sprite who's had a long, difficult day.

Okay, so Bob can turn into a guitar now. That doesn't mean he doesn't occasionally get the urge to play a regular guitar. After all, sometimes a man just has to strap on an axe and play some HAWT LIXX.

Which is what he's doing now, using the Flying V that Toki Wartooth gave him ages ago. Got any requests?
