The sun silently beats down on the grounds, waves of heat radiating off of everything. But then, a soft rumble begins. It grows louder and louder, starting in the mountains and crashing down down down until a great roaring avalanche of snow arrives...
The calm returns but the blistering heat is gone. "How's that, Autor?" Mia asks.
The boy smiles shyly at her, his warm, knitted scarf demonstrating a clear gradient of skill from raw novice to advanced beginner. "It's lovely," he says, squeezing her fingers in his gloved ones. "Thank you, Mia." Releasing them, he turns and places a hand on his hip to watch the next step.
At the mouth of the inlet a narrow cliff juts out into the water, covered by a thin layer of soil to which a mat of short grass is clinging, littered with demon bunny droppings. On this ledge, Korra stands, her feet planted firmly against the ground. Starting with that wide stance, Korra moves a foot and then pushes her arms in front and up, causing the lake bed to shift, and the waters to part as a narrow ledge of earth divides a smaller pond away from the larger lake.
Turning into the inlet, she leaps onto the surface and slides out into the center on a shelf of ice that stretches out in larger and larger crystals as it thickens beneath her. In the center of what will be the ice rink, Korra stops, and takes one calm, centering breath.
And then with her eyes closed she moves again, this time much more fluid in her motions, turning a slow circle on the ice with her arms in front of her, swaying as her weight shifts from foot to foot. A bubble of water rises in front of her, and as she pushes out, the bubble expands, passing through Korra so she's standing in the center of an ever expanding air filled bubble of water, stretching further and further out so by the time it hits the shore any onlookers will feel the cool sensation of water vapor from a fountain. She shifts her movement again, and the snowflake patterns of ice crystals appear at the top and the spread around the bubble, crystallizing and solidifying in a lattice of clear ice.
Then Korra opens her eyes, and finishes the rink as she slides back to the shore. There, a further turn and a sweeping gesture towards one side shatters a large hole in the side, perfect for a double door.
"Neat trick, Avatar," Autor says, accompanied by a saucy grin and an informal salute. With a few simple words, Mia sets a flurry fluttering down in the dome.
Once the rink is complete, the boy heads off to help an industrious ten-year-old set up the food and drinks table. There are some things too heavy for Rae to lift.

Re: Snow!
Some people in the bar might be familiar with that mechanical voice. And the magical circle beneath Yugo's hand in bright red, orange and yellow, currently sucking in snow towards its centre.
The resulting snowball is near twice the size of Yugo's head, and currently being propelled at whoever looks like the best target.
- In the boy's defence, he does have a literal demon in his head telling him to do bad things.

The blue-eyed cowgirl looks around at all the snow. She can hardly believe it — is nothing about summer sacred anymore?
Happily, she learned how to build and throw a proper snowball last winter; unhappily, there may be folk around who'll take this as an opportunity for revenge.

Re: Snow!
Which is a little hard not to notice how happy it's making them. Even if magical winter in summer is still smarting as wrong. Steve's eye, though, is not surprisingly caught by the snowballers. He might have a warm spot in his heart for all war games that involve strategy and target pegging. Even ones involving handfuls of magical ice.

He is taking a little time to get the hang of both the skates - more modern than he's used to - and the stick.

Re: Ice Rink!
He's already circling the rink, wearing pretty much a duplicate of his own skates provided by Bar, gliding along as effortlessly as if he were walking. The ice is good, smooth and solid, for being summer. Then again, there's the insulating dome of ice. Now that is cool.
Noting the hockey equipment, he's wondering if anybody would actually be up for a pickup game.
He might also be generous with tips on how not to hurt yourself when you fall, but only if he likes you.

Re: Ice Rink!
Still, she can't let him have all the fun. Kate Barlow is no quitter. Miss Bar provides her with a pair of skates, and she sits outside the dome and very conscientiously laces them up, taking care that they feel right, and — can't figure out how she's gonna get back up on her feet.
Welp.

Re: Ice Rink!
This is what he's talking about.
Skates feeling heavy on his feet as he clumps over to the ice. They aren't his, and neither is the jersey he's wearing, but it doesn't matter; what matters is the scent of ice on the air, crisp and clean. What matters is that he'll get to skate without worrying about a bunch of Hawaiians who never see ice when it's not in their drinks.
And best of all, Steve is nowhere to be seen.
(Yet.)
All his bluff swagger translates to easy forward motion once on the ice, and he takes a few laps, testing his knee, finding the right balance.
He's even grinning, wide and brilliant. Take that, Hawaii. This is how you do winter.

Re: Ice Rink!
Talk about timing.
See, Scootaloo was busy riding her scooter and minding her own business, when suddenly all. this. snow. comes out of nowhere.
Most ponies would decide that scooters + snow = don't mix, but this is Scootaloo.
She's not intimidated by
several-metric-tons-ofa little pile of snow. No. Being the daring young filly that she is, she proceeds to investigate just what's going on.Hey. There might even be a cutie mark in it for her!
That's ... how it started.
Where we are now is one pegasus pony on a scooter realising that *maybe* the wheels are not as all season as she thought they would be, and is dodging and weaving and sliding this way and that, trying to get off the ice and back onto dry land.
That's the idea, anyways.

Re: Ice Rink!
He's not wobbling or falling or getting about at a snail crawl, and that suits him just fine.
He wanted to fool Autor into believing that he could skate, and, after seeing Autor spend more time on his chin than his skates, he's confident enough that the ruse will hold.
Say. This skating business isn't all that bad, truth be told...

Food!
"But they're all so good," asserts the ten-year-old. "And it's good to feed people."
He lays a plate of her double choco-chip caramel cookies on the table, adding to the spread: water, tea, hot chocolate, wassail, and pumpkin pie.
