The sun silently beats down on the grounds, waves of heat radiating off of everything. But then, a soft rumble begins. It grows louder and louder, starting in the mountains and crashing down down down until a great roaring avalanche of snow arrives...

The calm returns but the blistering heat is gone. "How's that, Autor?" Mia asks.

The boy smiles shyly at her, his warm, knitted scarf demonstrating a clear gradient of skill from raw novice to advanced beginner. "It's lovely," he says, squeezing her fingers in his gloved ones. "Thank you, Mia." Releasing them, he turns and places a hand on his hip to watch the next step.

At the mouth of the inlet a narrow cliff juts out into the water, covered by a thin layer of soil to which a mat of short grass is clinging, littered with demon bunny droppings. On this ledge, Korra stands, her feet planted firmly against the ground. Starting with that wide stance, Korra moves a foot and then pushes her arms in front and up, causing the lake bed to shift, and the waters to part as a narrow ledge of earth divides a smaller pond away from the larger lake.

Turning into the inlet, she leaps onto the surface and slides out into the center on a shelf of ice that stretches out in larger and larger crystals as it thickens beneath her. In the center of what will be the ice rink, Korra stops, and takes one calm, centering breath.

And then with her eyes closed she moves again, this time much more fluid in her motions, turning a slow circle on the ice with her arms in front of her, swaying as her weight shifts from foot to foot. A bubble of water rises in front of her, and as she pushes out, the bubble expands, passing through Korra so she's standing in the center of an ever expanding air filled bubble of water, stretching further and further out so by the time it hits the shore any onlookers will feel the cool sensation of water vapor from a fountain. She shifts her movement again, and the snowflake patterns of ice crystals appear at the top and the spread around the bubble, crystallizing and solidifying in a lattice of clear ice.

Then Korra opens her eyes, and finishes the rink as she slides back to the shore. There, a further turn and a sweeping gesture towards one side shatters a large hole in the side, perfect for a double door.

"Neat trick, Avatar," Autor says, accompanied by a saucy grin and an informal salute. With a few simple words, Mia sets a flurry fluttering down in the dome.

Once the rink is complete, the boy heads off to help an industrious ten-year-old set up the food and drinks table. There are some things too heavy for Rae to lift.

Here. Now she can learn how to roll on the ice when there's a tarp thrown over her. If it catches, Autor will drag her to him.

Okay who turned out the lights?

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!"

Now she's flying blind here. On a scooter. With no brakes.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!"

This ... might not be one of your better ideas, Autor, because now she can't tell where you or or anyone else is, making it all too easy for a crash to happen.

At least... At least she's moving away from where the magical ice ends and water begins?

Oh, hey! Now he throws his rope. And he doesn't necessarily need to lasso her, either. Luckily, the rope has a grappling hook on the end, so all he has to do is hold the it taut and wait for her to run into his clothesline.

The tarp will cushion her fall. Probably.

Oh she runs into the line all right.

It's just that she's built up a lot of momentum from all this, and after being slingshot, goes for a brief backspin before finally coming to a stop fifteen feet away.

The lunch she had earlier has been properly liquified.

Eww. His tarp.

After Autor takes his time rolling up and storing his rope, he makes his way over to check if the little pony is all right.

Worry not about the tarp. It's fine, seeing as Scootaloo can't vomit.

"Oooooo I don't feel so good..."

"I bet," the boy says, not feeling so good himself given that he fell thrice getting over to her. He crouches down, eventually sitting on the ice to look her over. "Disregarding the fact that ponies can't even... All right, what were you doing with a scooter on the ice?"

"I got stuck in the snow. When I got free I ended up going in the direction of the ice."

Pause.

"Why is there snow and ice? It's summer out."

Pause.

"Did somepony get her forecast mixed up and decide on both summer and winter?"

Autor shakes his head, and frees the scooter from the tarp. He's glad it didn't go spinning off somewhere for someone else to trip over.

"Someone decided they wanted to go ice skating," he says, "et voila! a rink. Can you skate, Scootaloo? I'm living up to the nickname you gave me of Falling Over."

She looks about. Ice dome. Makeshift frozen pond. A whole lot of snow.

Goodness where'd they find all that snow?

"I don't know how none of this is melting in the sun..," she mutters rhetorically. Then, "No. I can't. Not yet."

"Magic," he responds, rather matter-of-fact. He furrows his brow, and struggles to get to his feet. "Well, maybe you can drag yourself along the edge of the sphere to the entrance."

"I supp-ooo-ooo-ooose..," she says, skidding about like Bambi in that famous scene from the movie. "It's gonna take a lo-oooo-oooo-ong time though."

"You have time," Autor says, shrugging as he gathers his tarp. "The ice won't melt off until later tonight, and we'll clear everyone before then."

"But I don't wanna wait until tonight! That's too long!"

She tries to get up again. Butt first, then front.

And down goes the butt.

"I suppose I could just slide on my belly..."

The kid raises a brow at her as he codes everything away in his sylladex. "You could," he says. "You can also use the side of the sphere, if you can get to it. You won't take all day, I assure you."

Belly down, she's a bit busy flapping her wings at a rate only a hummingbird would appreciate.

In an effort to propel herself forward.

It's working.

Kinda.

Like a sticky snail.

"Can you give me a push?"

"Can I--ow!" Autor, who had just managed to get to his feet himself, slams the ice with his hip. "Unngh, I don't know why I thought this was a good idea."

He shakes his head, and rubs the rapidly-forming bruises on his jaw. "Look, a push isn't going to work. Effugium," he says, and drags himself onto his carpet to hover to the prone Scootaloo.

Wow. You don't see those every day.

"So. Um. What's your idea?"

Does he plan to push her with that rug?

Autor flies close to her and dangles the scooter over the side. "All right, I can pull you up on to the rug or drag you across the ice. Your choice."

Oh let's see: get dragged about the ice, possibly by the tail, or go for a flyabout on a carpet.

Being a pegasus, this isn't a hard choice to make.

"Rug!"

The kid offers her a half-smile at her enthusiasm. He flattens the rug across the ice so she can clamber on to it while he removes his shoes.

Getting onto the rug takes less time for Scootaloo than getting up from the ice does.

But oh boy! She's on a flying rug!

She's gonna go flying!

Clutching the scooter and his shoes, Autor directs the carpet to lift them slowly out of the way of the rest of the skaters. "How well can you hang on?" he asks curiously. She seems rather excited to fly, and his carpet does have a decent top speed...

"Real good."

Didn't he see her holding on despite all the skidding about?

"We gonna go fast?"

"Mm, we could," he says, and flies them up to the top of the sphere at a slightly faster clip--and then down and out through the doors.

If she falls off here, at least she'll hit snow.
