It may even be that Dr. Hannibal Lecter volunteered to take over from the bar today.

In any case, he is standing behind the bar now, in an apron and with rolled-up sleeves, serving drinks and food. His specials board is eclectic and European, somewhat like himself.

"Looks like I caught Bar asleep again," says the 51 cm woman that comes buzzing in on beetle wings. "It is almost always a good opportunity to try something new," she says with a smile as she alights on the bar.

"So, what would you like?" the man behind the bar asks.

[fairy_fixit]

"The salad looks appealing, though I don't know what Speck d'alto Adige could be," she answers.

[cook_the_rude]

"It is an air-cured bacon speciality from the Alto Adige region between Austria and Italy," the man says.

[fairy_fixit]

"Bacon? What is that?" The concept hasn't quite reached Zanaris. It is relatively new even on the planet that Zanaris orbits.

[cook_the_rude]

"Meat?" the man says.

[fairy_fixit]

"What kind of meat? I am not a vegetarian, if you are thinking that meat might be objectionable to me."

[cook_the_rude]

"It's pork," the man says.

[fairy_fixit]

"Actual, edible pork? Pigs are usually used for sport, and not a very popular sport at that." Her world is odd.

[cook_the_rude]

"I would honestly not put it in a salad otherwise," the man says.

[fairy_fixit]

"This should be... interesting. I'll try it, along with the Rhubarb Spritzer. Could you add an extra bit of sugar to the spritzer? I burn through calories fairly rapidly."

[cook_the_rude]

"How much of each?" the man asks.

[fairy_fixit]

"Just a plate and a tall glass. Oh, in my size though; I was told there was a larger population of patrons about my size and that there were probably several sets of tableware still around."

[cook_the_rude]

The man looks around, finds tableware in that size, and serves up the drink and the salad.

"This is bacon. Pork. Huh." She looks sceptically at the meat adorning the salad.

Eventually she sits down on the countertop and uses the provided fork and knife to cut off and pick up a piece of the bacon.

After a few chews she comments, "This is absurdly delicious! I can hardly believe this came from a pig."

"The only reason we keep them," the man says.

"It's a good reason, I would say. Better than keeping them for just wrestling. No one really cares about pig wrestling except for some odd enthusiasts."

She happily eats the salad now that she knows what is in it better.

"I am glad you like your food," the man says.

[fairy_fixit]

After a pause in eating, "I am guessing that eating pork is common where you come from. How long have you humans been eating it?"

[cook_the_rude]

"Since the early stages of the Neolithic Revolution," the man says. "Before that, we hunted and ate wild boar."

[fairy_fixit]

"Neolithic... something to do with new stone?"

[cook_the_rude]

"Younger stone age," the man says. "The historical period when my world invented agriculture, domesticated animals other than dogs, and built its first more complex communities."

She thinks a bit. "You are from the human homeworld, then, aren't you? It's called Terra, correct?"

[cook_the_rude]

"We call it earth, but yes," the man says.

[fairy_fixit]

"I wonder why the humans on my world forgot that pork was actually edible and tasty, then. Well, not on my world, on Gielinor. It is not as if pigs and boars don't exist there. They probably followed the humans there."
