Note for Security c/o X-23 left with the Bar:
Shortly after this exchange, Agent Hill approaches the Bar.
Once that is settled, Hill appends a follow-up to Simmons's original note letting the rest of the team know it's being handled. Copies of Hill's note to X-23 and a brief overview of the situation are left for Director Fury.
[OoC: plot-locked to relevant parties, thanks!]
X-23,
A young S.H.I.E.L.D. agent under my purview has been provoked by a patron we believe to be Charles Xavier. According to her account, he appeared agitated and used information she had not divulged to unsettle her. As I understand it, you know Xavier. I would like to discuss what threat, if any, this man poses to my people.
Please contact me as soon as possible.
Maria Hill

Only if (when?) that fails will she leave a return note.
This seems like something that should be settled as soon as possible.
Mostly because the word 'threat' is involved.
no subject
She had a feeling she might.
"X-23."
She rises from a seat at a small table, hands clasped behind her back.
She has no intentions of leaving the bar until things are settled.
no subject
X continues to move in Hill's direction, pausing across from her at the table.
She does not sit down.
"Your agent is okay? Now."
That is an important place to start.
no subject
She invites X to take a seat.
"That's why I asked you to meet with me. You're familiar with Clint Barton?"
no subject
X just nods, once, and takes a seat.
"I have met him. Here. Several times."
Beat.
"You have specific questions? About Charles. Xavier. Or you want me to talk?"
Generally, that is.
no subject
"Barton believes you can lend us some insight into Xavier's head. He's a telepath."
Incertitude makes her voice curl.
"Do you think he could be dangerous?"
no subject
That's somewhere to start.
"He is less sure about who he is. And what he will do."
She doesn't shrug.
"It makes him less dangerous."
Well, less manipulative, at least.
no subject
"You know him as an older man, too?"
no subject
And, just in case --
"He trains mutants. So we are not dangerous to other people. And we protect them."
Another pause.
"Even when they want to kill us. But he is less cranky. When he is old."
no subject
It all gets logged away.
Smirking, she begins with:
"Good to know."
Beat.
"Would you call him arrogant? Most young men with his kind of power are."
no subject
"He tries not to be. Sometimes he is successful. But sometimes he is not paying attention."
She shrugs, one-shouldered and quick.
"You can ask him. Not to look. And he will try."
no subject
"It sounds like you think of him as a good guy. Generally speaking."
Arrogance because of inattention is easier to deal with than a megalomaniac with something to prove.
She folds her hands.
"In your opinion, would he ever mine information from someone's head to further his own interests or specifically cause pain?"
no subject
Then she pauses, once more being very careful of her words.
It is important to be precise.
"He would do it to help his students. Or to protect people. But he does not like pain."
She does not fidget.
"It is not only because he would feel it, too."
no subject
"So he is empathetic?"
no subject
It is only a little awkward.
"It is very comprehensive. Telepathy. When people are powerful enough."
no subject
"Good."
Really, it's more than enough for her to go on.
"Do you think there's anything else I should know? Or maybe you'd like more details of the incident."
no subject
X's response is prompt.
"I would like to know more. In case there is more I should tell you."
Details will help her figure that out.
no subject
She'd prefer they kept things off-record, but having good relations with the Security here is important.
While it may not be an eye witness account, Hill repeats every detail Simmons gave her down to the exact inflection she used, only withholding what information she deems classified.
She reserves her opinions until after she hears X-23's, but she's all but confident now they're dealing with no more than a clash of personalities.
no subject
"He is not like that. Charles. When he is older."
Beat.
"On my world."
X does not sigh.
"I think he will grow out of it. Here."
Another pause.
"And I can tell him. That it was mean."
no subject
"I wouldn't mind meeting with him myself. To be sure this is put to bed."
She's confident in X-23's capabilities, but it's only due diligence seeing this through to the end.
Particularly given the unusual nature of the matter.
"I'm sure you can understand the concern for my agent's safety, particularly given the clandestine nature of SHIELD. She wasn't willing to go home until she knew it wouldn't compromise her teammates."
no subject
"It might be better not to be unaccompanied. At first. When you talk to him."
Beat.
"You know how much longer your agent will remain here?"
no subject
"Fine. Will you arrange a meeting?"
She doesn't know whether it's for Charles's safety or her own.
Maybe both.
"Until I give her word, no doubt."
no subject
That is her version of 'yes'.
"You will be here?"
no subject
"I will."
If Simmons can't go home, the least Hill can do is be here with her.
"Thank you, X-23."
no subject
And with that said, X stands up to go.
She's got a Professor to find.
