ATTN SCOUTS

You have been allocated into two equal teams for games and challenges. These are known as Patrols and they are designed so that nobody gets left out (but don't let it stop you hanging out with people on the other team should you desire).

P.s. if you are going camping this week, I suggest you use your patrols to draw up a kitchen duty/firewood/water-fetching rota, even if you don't use them for tents.'

"Hey."

Dick appears at her elbow - not in a sneaky way, but in the way of hyperenergetic twelve year old boys who can't really keep still.

"So we're thinking this weekend. Can you come and check us out for those badges?"

Cat won't say it, but she's obviously pretty torn up about the game, and he's got it into his head that getting a badge for this will make up for it.

"Sure thing." Bonnie says. "In fact, if you won't be mortal offended, I'm gonna tag along fer most of it - I won't interfere, I'm just keepin' an eye on things. One of the little ones yer takin' has special needs, and his Dad's worried about him goin' overnight for the first time without a familiar adult."

Tucking her box of badges under her arm, she adds.

"Ain't it that building block holiday this weekend?"

Oh, right.

Dick hadn't thought of that. He looks surprised, then frowns, twitching from foot to foot.

"Think people will want to skip to do that?"

"Maybe. Or it might make it trickier if people are wearin' a different body. Why don't you start the camp on the Thursday or Friday night? Then people can do both and you won't have to worry that people will wander off without helpin' strike their tents."

She smiles. "I'll come along either way, if you don't mind. It's not that I don't trust you with Fry, but he's autistic and he might find a lot of the camp activities difficult."

"I know Fry."

Dick's face lights up. "Sure, you can be around. Don't want him to have anything less than a great time."

"Awesome, thanks." Bonnie grins.

"It may be totally unnecessary, he knows quite a few of you now and you seem to be real good with him. He don't like to be touched and it helps him if you let him know what's happenin' when."

"No touching, tell him schedule," he repeats back at her. "Got it. Course, you're still welcome."

"I think you'll do just fine." Bonnie says. "But it's hard fer any little one to spend a night away from home fer the first time."

"Yeah," Dick says. He doesn't stop smiling, but there's a helpless edge to the way he looks up to the rafters.

"I guess it is."

"Was there any part of it you wanted advice with?" Bonnie asks. "You've worked out what yer goin' to eat, and so on?"

"I figured we'd be eating from a campfire," Dick says. "I could rig up a pot hanger and do a stew and take some bread. And there's always potatoes."

"I won't dock you points fer usin' a fridge if you need one." Bonnie says. "Stew sounds like a good choice. You should ask the other kids if they have any food allergies."

He nods. "Yeah, I guess. And there may be people better at cookin' then me who want to do it. I just know what we used to have on campfire nights."

"We used to sing around the fire - still do sometimes - but I'm from a biker gang and most of our songs ain't all that repeatable."

Dick gives her a grin.

"I grew up in the circus. I ain't repeating any of our songs in front of rubes."

Bonnie barks a laugh.

"I'm sure there's a book of songs you could get from the bar. Or you could all teach each other."

He beams. "And some people hafta know songs that aren't dirty, right?"

"Sure thing." Bonnie grins. "Maybe some of the under tens..."
