(no subject)

Magius sits, quietly, in a chair facing the main area, his staff close to hand, one book balanced and open in his hands as he reads it, taking glances around the bar. A small series of other books spills across the table next to him.

Wesley misses a step as he walks by.

"Oh. Pardon me, I thought--."

"Ah, I see I wasn't the first then."

Wesley relaxes considerably at that. And perhaps because Magius still seems like a familiar face, he asks,

"If it wouldn't be a trouble--. Would you mind if I sat down for a while? I'm still new here, and trying to make acquaintances."

"I'm Wesley Wyndham-Pryce. I was a once a Watcher, like Giles was."

From the undertone of Wesley's voice, Magius can probably tell that his time as a Watcher is not a happy memory.

"Thank you," Wes replies gratefully, and sits down.

"I've had some experience visiting different dimensions. Not a terribly pleasant experience I'm afraid. But perhaps you come from a better place."

Wes adds, with a slight smile, "You certainly don't strike me as a demon."

"So it seems. But I'm pleased to find someone who can discuss it."

"There is an alarming number of ... phenomena ... to comprehend here. It's a bit overwhelming at times."

"I must say, I was anticipating an afterlife somewhat more grim than this one. I suppose I should be grateful, were I ever to find out who created this place."

(ooc: slowtime? would like to continue but bed approaches)

"Redemption?" Wes laughs quietly. "The goal one strives for, yet never achieves."

He pauses.

"I'm sorry. My colleagues and I made redemption our business, helping others to attain it."

"But it may, perhaps, have made me a bit cynical about my own prospects."

To his credit, Wesley pauses for a moment to consider this, then finally nods. His assent might be tinged with skepticism, but:

"Forgive me. I suppose you have a point. It's certainly hard to imagine this as anything less than a fresh start."

He smiles. "And one should never argue against keeping an open mind."

"If you'll pardon a change of subject: what is the nature of magic on your world? I wonder how much it might differ from my own."

"I see. My world is somewhat different. There are beings we call the Powers That Be, but it's not clear whether they are true deities or not. They may only be avatars for a higher power. My world is somewhat unclear on the question."

"And you're able to draw on this god-gifted magic even here in the bar?"

That would be intriguing. Well, intriguing either way, actually.

"Really?" Wesley asks, a definitely interest and even excitement in his voice. "Then this place may be an incredible opportunity. I hadn't realized."

"I had quite remarkable resources back on my world, back before my ... death. But perhaps I haven't lost those at least."

[identity profile] dark-ex-watcher.livejournal.com 2006-01-07 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Thank you. I certainly will ask Giles about him."

"I'm glad to have met you, Magius. I trust I'll see you again around the bar?"

"Until then," Wes smiles again and takes his leave.
