Whistling to himself, George slips behind the bar.

After being gone several days, it feels good to be back.

He glances at the specials board, makes a couple of quick additions then announces:

"Tonight's drinks are Oasis, Opal Cocktail, Orlando Amethyst, The Other Half.."

"What'll it be?

"I been speakin' it all my life there, Jack - most folk in my time do, anyways. 'S nicer than English sometimes - prettier swearin' words too."

He chuckles. He never considered a fondness for language based on how pretty their swear words are. "Where are you from?"

"Where is...sort o' complex. I live on a spaceship, from 2519."

This tends to be enough to confuse most new bar patrons.

"Did you say a...space ship?"

[badinlatin]

"Hrm. Yes. I suppose I should ask you when you're from so's to not confuse ya too very much more."

Mal orders another drink for himself and Jack both.

"1933. Thanks."

He takes a generous sip. Cause, y'know, space ship.

"1933. I'm a bit fuzzy on the whole Earth History bit, though I always liked cars."

Mal = Geek, apparently.

"Won't find a lot o' things lookin' like your cars in my time."

"It would be hard to get a car into a space ship, wouldn't it?"

"Not necessarily - some liners are about a thousand feet long."

Mal handwaves the subject entirely, changing topics with, "What about you? What do you do?"

"I'm a writer," he replies. Slightly dissapointed he switched the topic.

"Sounds interestin'. Novels, or newspapers...?"

"Plays."

Sometimes short stories, too.

"Oh." Somewhat flat. "Don't know too much 'bout plays and all. They're kind o' boring in my time - Chinese plays are bizarre, wi' like...drums and things. Hope yours are more entertaining."

"They are," he says curtly.

"Sounds good - maybe you'll let me read 'em sometime?"

"Ask the bar for one. I don't have any on me."

"I'll do that. And if you ever need any good ideas, 2519's got a lot of 'em, story-wise."

He smirks wryly. "Audiences in 1933 would not exactly flock to see a play set in on a spaceship in 2519. That's not what I write about, anyway. I don't exactly dabble in the extraordinary."

Unless Carl makes him.

"That is quite a shame, I think. What do you write about? What's the popular themes where you're from?"

"I write about the common people. Cinema likes to show fiction; I prefer to show the truth."

"I can see where that might get problematic, writin' about my truth in your time. Your world probably won't see spaceships for a good long while, yet."

He shakes his head. "It's only a theoretical possibility at this point. The work of science fiction."

Mal almost laughs. "That's me - livin' in a world o' science fiction."

Mun: Hahehehe. Heh.

"Well, I'm gonna let you get back to your drink. Thanks for talkin' with me - you need help 'round here, drop me a line, dong ma?"

He nods. "Certainly. I'll see you around."
