Fed up with feeling morose, more because she promised her friends to cheer up ~~and give the mun an emotional break~~, Sara has briefly returned home.

She re-enters Milliways, dressed in a leotard, tights, leg warmers, and an expression that clearly states anyone laughing at her would wind up volunteering for one of Grissom's experiments.

She blinks, surprised at her non-surprise, when the Bar courteously aportions off part of itself and supplies a barre, floor, and mirrors, after she has pulled on her ballet slippers.

She's dancing now. Feel free to distract her.

Cole glances over to the dancer, fully expecting to see Meg.

*Blink*

He leans back in his booth and watches Sara dance.

It's been years since she last danced, and she's not going to try en pointe any time soon. But it feels good, letting herself move without thought.

Glancing over at the completion of one exercise, she notices Cole watching her. She smiles, giving a brief wave, before returning to her routines.

Cole waves back, the evidence of a light smile on his face. He returns to his notebook, looking up every so often to watch her dance.

She attempting rotations now, trying to remember how to keep her balance and still move across the floor.

After the fourth stumble, she mutters a gaelic oath, and wanders off the floor.

"Hey."

Cole hadn't noticed her stumbling, and so didn't notice her walk up. He jerks up from his notebook, then realizes it's Sara. He smiles. "Hey. Very lovely, by the way."

"Then you didn't see the last five minutes," she grins. "Mind if I sit down?"

"Not at all." Which is sort of an answer to both questions. "Have you been dancing long? I don't immagine you get much time to, what with being a CSI."

She sits down with a sigh, rubbing briefly at her legs. "I used to when I was younger...then the family I was with couldn't afford to keep up the lessons. I do the exercises off and on as a hobby-something non-forensics related-and today I tried to set it to music."

She smiles wryly. "Instead, I became acquainted with the ground. Several times. Oh well. Bar, I'd like a Gatorade, please."

Cole nods. "It was well attempted, though. Have you met Meg? She works in an opera house as a ballerina. The other day she brought in some choreography work her mother needed her to do for a chorus. If you're interested in taking lessons, I can think of none better here to take them from."

She nods. "I've spoken with Meg about it--we met the other night, courtesy of her brother--and I've asked her for some tips."

Thanking the bar when the Gatorade appeared wasn't seeming so strange anymore. "Would you like something?"

"Sure. Know any good wines?"

"I didn't know Meg had a brother... wait. Is her brother one of the Endless?"

She shakes her head. "I'm fond of the blushes myself-the sweet wines. Whatever you'd like will be fine-my treat."

"I don't know if he's an Endless or not. Or what an Endless is, for that matter." Now she looks perplexed.

Cole turns to the bar and orders a glass of rose wine. "Thank you, bar." He takes a sip. "Not bad. I'm more of a fan of the darker reds myself, but this is nice. Thank you."

"I'm not sure what the Endless are either. Just that Meg's father," the word almost a question, "looks different to different people. The first time I met him, he looked like my ex-wife. Now, that was a strange encounter. Oh," almost an afterthought, "and Meg's aunt is Death. Another of the Endless."

Sara raises an eyebrow. "I've met Death-didn't know she was Meg's aunt-already. Nice enough lady, I suppose."

"Her brother is...well, unconventional. A 'transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvannia.' Fun enough in his own right though and the most shameless flirt I've ever met."

Cole shakes his head, with a grin. "The more I hear about Meg's family..." Of course, considering his own 'family' he really shouldn't be saying anything.

"They seem to be an odd bunch. But what family isn't?" She's thinking of the lab now, without bitterness for once.

"If you don't mind my asking, what was your family like?"

Sara quiets down a bit, a shadowed look on her face. She sighs, glancing around. "My home life was...well, there was domestic abuse. My brother and I were put into foster care. My parents are gone now." She shrugs slightly. "My fellow CSIs are family to me now."

"I'm sorry I brought it up," he says, sympathetically. "What's your office like?"

She waves her hand. "Not your fault, Cole. Don't worry about it."

She grins a bit. "Absolutely insane. Any given night, the Trace tech will be lecturing at large, whether or not there's an audience to hear him. Nick and Warrick would be running through the halls, tossing a football. Catherine'd be giving me unwanted fashion adviced interspersed between reconstructing a glass door. And Grissom would be spouting off random bits of useless information that would somehow make sense at the time."

"Sounds pretty nice. I've certainly heard ofworse working situations."

"I hear that," Sara agrees. "We've had our ups and downs but..we stick together. Even though some were put on a different shift, it hasn't really affected the bond we've developed."

Cole chuckles. "That doesn't surprise me. The San Francisco office has basically given up on scheduled shifting. The CSI's all work together anyways."

She smiles wryly. "Our new assistant director used to be the dayshift supervisor. Always had a grudge against Grissom. He promoted Catherine to Swing shift supervisor, and transferred Warrick and Nick with her, simply to spite Grissom."

She smirks. "Blew up in his face when we all had to work to solve a suspicious death. Made his decision look idiotic, especially when the press made some inquiries about it."

"Ugh. Office politics." Of course, in Cole's office, politicking usually involves Fireballs and Lightning... "Did they end up putting you all back on the same shift?"

"No, they haven't. They can't justify demoting Catherine at any rate-she earned her position. However, we are getting paired on split-team cases now, which is really twisting Ecklie's gut," she says with an air of satisfaction. "Sooner or later, he will royally blunder. He has the inter-office political instincts of a dead herring."

"Makes sense. If she earned it, she should keep it, no matter why the intentions behind the promotion. I take it everyone's just looking for an excuse to fire Ecklie?"

"More like he wants an excuse to fire all of us, and is annoyed that he can't find any," she replies. She smiles wryly. "I won't set out to destroy him, if that's what you're asking. I don't work that way. But I can't say the same thing for him."

"Sounds like a rock and a hard place. He doesn't interfere in the day-to-day of things, does he?"

"Sometimes. But lately, he's been...oddly complacent. He even assisted us in a helpful way in nailing a serial rapist/murderer. He might have pulled his head out from under the rock." By her tone, Sara doubts this.

"Well, hopefully the pattern will continue."
