This is not the Jack she's looking for.

He won't move along, though, because she has apples.

Jack might want an apple.

"Hey."

"Hi." No, he isn't the Jack she's looking for, but she has plenty of apples.

"Are those apples for sale?"

"Nope." And one is tossed at him. "Enjoy."

He catches it.

"Thanks. How are you?"

Jack sinks his teeth into the apple. It is a tasty apple.

"All right." ~~Barring further destruction via canon, boohiss.~~ "You?"

~~Whut?!?!~~

"I'm fine. I haven't been sleeping on the couch lately."

~~My show is going to hell. Gah. May invoke the 'it never happened' plotline.~~

"Good to hear. The booths and such get very uncomfortable after a time."

"Some beds aren't any better."

"Can always ask for a new one or try others."

"Both of the beds I've been on have been very comfortable. There's no accounting for the beds some hotel managers choose to use."

Hello, hard-as-stone mattress in Rome.

"Mmm. Always a risk when traveling. And I hated staying in hotel rooms--they're unsanitary even under the best of conditions. "

He shrugs. "You have to pay good money to get into the sanitary ones."

She briefly debates the merit of telling him the truth about 'sanitary' ones but decides it isn't worth talking him down from the rafters.

She's learned her lesson from Ace.

"Anyway, there's nothing wrong with my bed."

Or Satine's.

"Then why were you sleeping down here?"

"I was too tired to walk up the stairs to my room after I went for a walk."

"Oh yeah--you told me that. Sorry--it's been a long week."

He shakes his head. "Don't apologies. Can I buy you a drink?"

"I'd better not." Given her state of mind for the past few days, she's been avoiding alcohol. "But thanks."

He nods; she probably needs a distraction more than anything else.

"So the bar's given me an iPod. I didn't ask for it."

"Bar likes to do that every so often." A slight grin. "Did someone explain what an iPod is for?"

He nods.

"A man named Jack Bauer did. It's been playing a few classical selections so far."

"They can be nice things to have when working on a particularly monotonous project." Such as piecing together a broken glass door.

"I was reading at the time."

"I like having music playing softly when I read," she says with a shrug.

"I didn't have a problem with it," he admits. "It was very relaxing."

Jack is drawing his family, and looks up at the scent of apples. He smiles at Sara. "Hello."

"Hi," she says quietly. "I wanted to apologize--I shouldn't have overreacted like that."

He waves a hand. "Thank you, but--look." He puts his sketchpad and pencils aside. "I know, Sara. I know what it's to like to know what's going to happen to someone you love.

"It's never easy. It shouldn't be."

"Shit," she says softly, closing her eyes. "I didn't even think of that...but all the same..."

No need to rehash old business. "Thank you. I understand what you were trying to say. At least I do now."

"A heated reaction is understandable when emotions are high.

"Did Hank tell you he's asked me to perform the ceremony?"

"Yes, he did." She smiles. "And Barry will be having a poker night in lieu of a bachelor party for him. I'll be taking Cath on a girl's night out."

"Will it involve Mike's booty?" Jack says, deadpan.

"Nope. Possibly Enrique's, as we will be revisiting Chippendales." It's not that easy to embarrass Sara. Honest.

"Ah . . . lucky Enrique.

"I do need to get with one or both of them about the ceremony but I haven't seen either of them lately. And there's . . ." He waves a hand again. "Some odd magic in the air."

"Yes. The singing strand." She shakes her head, remembering Catherine. "I hope whatever it is runs its course."

"Singing strand?

"Hm. I'm not sure I like the sound of that."

"Some people here seem to have been taken over by this inexplicable urge to put on a performance of some sort. Catherine, Mark Cohen, and some others I don't know."

"There is magic in music, 'tis so, but inexplicable urges . . . not as pretty."

"Hmmm. Wonder if the magic is music itself. Or a kind of music."

"That sounds like a question for a musician."
