"....pikachu."

He's being watched by something.

Something yellow.

Norrington eyes the strange little creature right back.

"...hello?"

"Pikapi," it replies, politely.

It flips an ear. "Pikapika?"

"...um."

He doesn't speak Pikachu!

Sadly, few do.

It points at itself. "Pikachu."

It points at him. "Pikapika?"

"...James Norrington?" he hazards.

It nods. Communication!

"Pikapi!" It holds out a paw for shaking.

He shakes the paw, trying not to make it obvious how odd he's finding this.

It smiles at him, then points at the door. "Pi pi pi, chupika..." Then at him, "Pikapika?"

"Can I... leave?" It's a guess. "Yes."

"chuu..." Its ears droop in annoyance.

But it's prepared! One quick scamper under That Table Over There, and it's got a PICTURE.

This PICTURE includes a MEADOW, and some TREES, and a ROCK, and a YELLOW BEASTIE.

"Pikachu, pikapika," it announces, pointing from the picture to the door. "Pikapika?" It points at him.

"...your home? Oh. Mine is Port Royal. A city."

"Pikapi?" It sits down, tilting its head. A city, you say?

"...yes. By the sea."

OMG THE SEA!

Its eyes widen in awe. "Pikaaa?" Bouncing excitedly, it points to the lake area. "Pikapi?"

Lakes are exciting. The sea must be more exciting. Because it's bigger.

He follows its... arm... and takes a good guess.

"Like that, yes. But a lot bigger."

"PIKAAA!" it gasps, amazed.

"PiiiiIIII kachu?" It throws its arms out as if to demonstrate "this big?" only, y'know, farther, because its arms are not very long.

"So big you can't see where it ends."

"pikaaaa..."

Its mind is officially blown.

It takes a few moments to contemplate this.

"Chupika, pikapika pi?" It waits for a moment, then realises that the question isn't intelligible to non-pokemon.

So it dashes off for another piece of paper, and a crayon.

"Pikpika?" it asks, scrawling what looks like water, then a shore. It poins at the shore.

"Yes, that's right."

"Pi pi pi, pikachu pika," it wonders, miming standing and, presumably, looking in the direction of the shore, "Pikapika chu?"

Is the shore visible if you're on the sea if you can't see where it ends? THIS IS AN IMPORTANT QUESTION.

"Well... that depends how close you are to the shore."

"Pikaaa...." It nods seriously, committing this to memory.

"Do you not have sea where you're from?"

"Pi pi pi... chupika... Pikachu chuu pi," it answers, pointing again at its drawing. "Chupi, pikapikapi," it adds, gesturing toward the lake.

They have a lake, just no local seas.

"No sea. Would you... like to see it?"

Is it physically possible for eyes to get that wide?

Not to mention SHINY.

"PIKAPI!"

It bounces around like a large, yellow pinball for a few moments, out of sheer excitement.

"...I'd have to carry you in a blanket or some such", he warns it.

"Pikapi," it answers. Blankets are cool! Or warm! They're also fuzzy. Yay for blankets!

"And you'd have to stay hidden. There's nothing like you in my world."

This is cause for blinkage.

No pikachu?

No pokemon?

WTF?!

"Nothing like you", he repeats firmly. "So you can't let yourself be seen."

It nods, serious. "Pikachu."

"When would you like to go?"

"Pikapika!"

Now, duh!

"...very well. Let me just fetch a blanket from the Bar..."

It follows expectantly.

Yay a trip!

He gets the blanket, scoops the creature up and wraps it away from view, and out they go.

They'll be back soon enough.
