Mal is inna bar. May have been awhile for some, but here he is.

He may or may not be looking through a book of knitting patterns that Zoe gave him for New Year's.

Beware the Knitting Captain?

"Good afternoon, Captain." It's been a while since Lando has met Mal, but that never stopped him from being friendly.

[ooc: Mun is having a very busy day, so slowtime is likely except at lunchtime. Still, I couldn't resist.]

Mal does eventually look up from his book, an amiable greeting always being preferred over how to figure out cable stitching.

"Wei, Lando. Been up to anythin' fun and amusing of late?"

Lando grins, as he appreciates someone who doesn't beat around the bush.

"A few things, Captain. I've been showing a friend the sights in my galaxy, learning English, and slowly figuring out what to do with myslef since I resigned my commission.

"And yourself?"

Mal's eyes widen, but for only a moment.

"'S easy to forget here that the Bar translates for folk. For me, well, I got married, two o' my crew members got married, and now I'm lookin' for a job for my crew. Gotta keep flyin', y'know how it is."

A moment's thought, then, "Resigned your commission?"

"You knit?"

How peculiar.

"Yes," Mal returns, with only a mild smirk. "'S hard stuff, Jack."

Mal turns the book of patterns around to put them in plain view, and the pattern the book is open to does appear to require more than a beginner's talent for it.

His eyebrows go up. "Wow. How long have you been knitting?"

"Since August. My friend Raven ga' me knitting needles, probably thinkin' I wasn't gonna use 'em, and I just went at it. Made my mechanic a hat."

Mal's got a rather ridiculous smile of success at the mention of that hat.

"You should learn."

A face she hasn't seen in a while but remembers that she liked.

"Good Morning Captin." a bright smiling Amanda greets. "How have you been?"

"Fair well, Amanda, fair well," Mal closes his book, putting it off to one side. "Keepin' busy? How's Guppy - I ain't seen him about for a spell."

She takes a seat. If he's bring up conversation then it should be fair to say that he wouldn't mind her company.

"That is good to hear." her smile fades slightly, "He is doing well enough." It isn't her place to tell Mal Guppy's business.

"Well enough." Mal sounds like he knows many different definitions of the phrase 'Well enough'.

"I'll have to look in on him sometime. Is he still around the bar much?"

"Ah," says the Dwarf, who has not been in the Bar in some time but who has today come to retrieve some lunch. "Now there's a craft I've not seen the race of Men practice in some time. Good afternoon, Captain."

"Good afternoon, Gimli - And I don't think I've ever really seen another man do this stuff; usually it's the womenfolk."

"I meant your folk in general, Captain. I'm told it's not uncommon for men out of the North to knit for themselves, though you don't see any but the women doing so in Gondor." Gimli shrugs. "Most of Durin's Folk who go abroad learn the craft ere they leave. It's rare to find dwarven-sized socks and the like in the markets of Men, after all."

"I would imagine so, Gimli - maybe children's clothing?"

Inara walks quietly up behind him, then leans around and gives him a kiss on the cheek.

"And what are you up to?"

Mal immediately stretches one hand behind him so as to find his way to Inara's hand, guiding her to sit next to him, close.

"Nothing."

She sits next to him, enjoying the warmth of his body. She cocks an eyebrow at the book.

"Thinking about a new project?"

"That's knitting," Mel says accusingly from the rafters.

Knitting is evil, doesn't Mal know this?

"Um. Yes?"

Mal very much does not know this. He knows about Blodwen, but not really so much about the knitting part.

Mel asks the logical next question.

"We're not gonna hafta drop a house on you, are we? Cause they make a helluva mess."

Knitting has earned a certain reputation around here.

But luckily for Mal, he doesn't fit the profile.

He really shouldn't ever start wearing all white. It'd be a bad career move.

For example, he wouldn't get friendly pyros sitting next to him, offering blueberries.

...

Okay, maybe that's not the best example.

And yes, white very much does not suit.

Shaking his head no, he closes the pattern book and pushes it off to one side. "Wei, Ace - up to anythin' fun?"
