After this conversation, Kevin is sitting alone in a booth, a pot of rapidly cooling tea on the table in front of him, trying to figure out what the hell just happened.

An average looking man wanders by with a very pretty baby strapped to his back, he smiles to Kevin in greeting and the baby trills like a bird.

He looks up with a blink at the unusual sound, and nods back.

Richard chuckles softly at the blink, sits, and orders his own pot of tea.

"You new here, mate?"

He has a very thick Scottish accent.

"Uh... not that new - nearly two weeks now. Kevin Fawkes."

"Ahh. I don't get in so often anymore. Bit busy with my boys."

He points to the baby on his back, then holds out a hand.

"Richard Mayhew, pleasure."

Kevin shakes hands, managing a smile.

"Good to meet you. He's yours?"

He pulls the baby out of the sling and sets him on his lap.

"Aye, this is my pride and joy, Joshua. He's just turned nine months."

Joshua grins up at Kevin, most of his tiny, pearly baby teeth already in place. The canines might look a little sharp though. Richard pulls out a bottle and starts feeding him. The formula inside is pink, or maybe the bottle is pink, it's hard to say.

Kevin doesn't take any particular notice of the colour of the bottle, or even the fangs. He's a little distracted.

"Good to meet you too, Joshua."

Joshua is very focused on his bottle. He'll pay attention to Kevin later.

"So, standard questions. When and where are you from, and how did you find Milliways?"

"California, 2000, came here after I died. How about you?"

"London 1998 or 2006 depending on which way I go. Was born in Glasgow though. I found Milliways in a service tunnel one night."

"In a service tunnel? That's a new one."

He gives a wry grin.

"Not really. I think we all come from somewhere different."

"...I guess, yeah. Someone should collect the stories here."

"One of the kids was doing that. Dunno if they're here anymore. Maybe you should take up the job."

"Maybe." He thinks that's more Darien's thing, though.

He shrugs.

"Just an idea. What did you do before you got here?"

"I was a doctor. A researcher."

"Well, that's good. We always need more doctors 'round here. Gets a bit messy at times."

Kevin nods. "I'm officially on the medical register as of this morning."

"Excellent! Maybe I'll bring the boys to you for their check-up."

Richard hasn't seen Eska in a while and neither of his sons could go to a regular pediatrician.

"Boys?"

"My sons. Joshua has a little brother called Andrei."

"...I think I met him earlier. With a guy called Gary?"

He refuses to think about the pseudo-fight with Darien.

Richard grins.

"Oh, brilliant. He did come through here, then. Gary has custody of Andrei most of the time. 's easier if we share out the parenting, y'know."

That gets a slight blink - he hadn't got that impression from Gary - but he shrugs it off mentally.

"They look pretty close to the same age - twins?"

He shakes his head.

"No, not twins, they're four months apart. I adopted them."

"Ah." He smiles. "Good of you."

He snerks.

"Not so much 'good', as 'entirely selfish'. I wanted kids, and adoption was the only way at the time. Luckily I have very supportive family and friends."

"That's always a good thing to have", Kevin agrees with a smile.

"Yeah, speaking of which, did you see which way Gary went? I'm looking for him."

"I didn't, sorry. My brother showed up just before he left."

"I'd better keep looking then. See you later, mate."

"See you."

He blinks, but accepts the drink.
