It's been said that when the Dark comes rising that six will turn it back. Notably, there aren't six around at the moment and so Mesaana is sitting at a table sipping a cup of very strong tea calmly. She does not look particularly like a Dark Lord since she's currently wearing a blue robe over her white nightdress. Her hair is a mess and she looks a touch grumpy.
Go on, tempt Fate. If you are really good at tempting, Fate just might screw you.

It may not be apparent, but she's actually enjoying herself. This woman reminds her a lot of her Aunt Amy, which can't be a bad thing.

"Not something I am familiar with, but there are always people out there whose purpose in existence is to shatter the beliefs of others."
A pause, and very little bitterness evident in her voice.
"The education system is full of them."

"It's good to know Lawndale High didn't corner the market on them. Although Raft's not shaping up to be much better, frankly."

"What a surprise."

Then, Daria's brow furrows.
"Aren't you supposed to be telling me how important it is to finish school to help prepare me for life in the real world?"

"I am a teacher myself. I understand the value of education, but I also am aware of the ability of the education system to suck the marrow out of students."
no subject
"You're a teacher deploring the education system? What do you teach?"
And where? she barely stops herself from adding.

"I can teach almost anything, it seems. I taught introductory statistics to a boy here for a time. I also teach what you might term 'sorcery' to someone else, and algebra to her daughter once.."
A pause as her tone waxed pedantic.
"My actual specialty is in experimental techniques in extra-dimensional spaces."
no subject
"Okay, if I declare that as my major, would you be my advisor?"
What? It's an order of magnitude more interesting than anything in Raft's catalog.

"While I am not sure that your world has the kind of technology necessary for such a field of study, I am sure that what I could teach you could be extremely beneficial."
Sipping her tea, Mesaana thought for a moment longer.
"I have no problem doing so, though as I am not in the bar all that regularly, the study will be quite independent. The bar can provide you with the books that you will need."

"Ordinarily, I'm the first person to pass on extra credit. But when am I going to have a chance to learn something even slightly as interesting as that sounds? Consider me signed up. Daria Morgendorffer."

"I am called Selae Arata Pilaera. Customarily, Lady Selae."
A pause.
"A pleasure making your acquaintance, Lady Daria."
no subject
"Umm... likewise, Lady Selae."
Anything for something challenging.

"While I have other things to attend to now, mainly my rest, I will leave a letter with the bar with your materials and instructions."

"I'm looking forward to it," she replies, with absolutely no trace of sarcasm. (Which is even higher praise.)
Then, she looks down at her rapidly cooling pizza and her melting milkshake. "Well, I'll leave you be, then, and be on the lookout for the syllabus."
