There is a flash of light, and Q is there.

Don't mind him. He's just a little grumpy this month as it seems someone posed him a riddle and none of the humanoids he's asked the riddle of have given him anything other than a very simple answer that he knows can't be the answer the puzzler is looking for.

Said puzzler is over by the fireplace, gazing at the flames. He makes no sign that he noticed Q's arrival. Perhaps he didn't notice. Or perhaps he is simply ignoring him for now while he wrestles with an issue of his own.

"There you are." His tone is dour. "I'll have you know I've researched this little puzzle of yours extensively and I'm still convinced I'm right. It doesn't take into account the entire spectrum of radiation.

"Ninety percent of the humans I asked your question gave varying responses of 'Huh?' or 'It's black!' while the remainder wailed and screamed incoherently until I let them go."

"And my answer to your question is 'it takes away that which is both our greatest strength and our greatest weakness'," the Ranger says quietly. Strange, he's nowhere near as chipper as he usually is.

"And I see we must go back to even more basic steps, my friend," he says with a weary sigh. "Tell me. What is color?"

"It's the reflection of various frequencies of radiation."

"Correct in part," he says, still staring at the fire. "But not the complete picture. Tell me...have you ever heard of the ancient concept of the Fire Triangle?"

"There are several. Which one in particular are you interested in?"

"I was thinking of the one invented by firefighters on Old Earth. For a fire to burn, you need fuel, heat and oxygen. If you take away any point of the triangle, the fire goes out."
