A View to a Death: on Antar, Michael has one more prophetic dream... and finally understands

The front door slams open and Michael races in, looking like he's just woken up. Mostly because he has.

He doesn't waste any time running across the bar and to the lake door.

Hank has seen panic and mergencies enough the last week to know that something is off and wrong and so he moves, following Michael out the door.

"Michael? What is it?"

The words are quiet, designed not to carry, just in case there is something or someone out here. Hank moves completely soundlessly.

Before he catches up to Ford, Michael spins, frantically, looking for whatever or whoever he knows is out here.

"I don't know. Something bad's going to happen. Or happened. I don't know."

Hank immediately lets his own senses go on alert and glances around as well, straining hearing and smell.

"Do you know anything else about it? What might be involved?"

"Shelley. Kim, Nita, Trillian... I think someone's going to die."

He's still not quite awake, and the dream is fresh in his mind.

"Great... "

he keeps looking, moving out into the darkness.

"Any details? How did you find out?"

"A dream. I've been dreaming about the stone garden for months. This time, he talked to me."

Hank sighs. he hated precognition...

"What is the stone garden? And who?"

he keeps his eyes and senses open wide.

Michael looks straight at him, and there's open fear on his face.

"Ishamael."

[inquisitivehero]

Hank blinks.

"Okay. Obviously this is bad mojo, but I dont know him. Who is he and what does he do?"

Hank is already cursing in his ehad. Anything tyhat can scare Michael is bad news. He keeps his hand very close to his talisman.

"He's evil. And he's obsessed with Shelley. I think... no, he took her."

"Shelley? Where would he take her?"

he glances around.

"Somewhere out here?"

"Away."

He sounds defeated.

"Where, Michael?"

If there is one thing Hank knows, it is that there is no meaning to the words no chance. He has a tendency to push.

And there's a Ford dragging himself off the ground. His forehead is bleeding from a vindictive rock, and his trousers are ripped at the knees.

Michael spots him almost instantly, sprinting over. I'm too late.

"Ford!"

He turns at the sound of his name, wincing. Yeah, that ankle's sprained.

"Michael! They're gone!"

"....I know", Michael says reluctantly. "The dreams finally decided to get clear."

"Lucky you. You get dreams. I get a scalp wound. It was a portal, Michael. One of those portals. What the flaming planet of hell is going on?!"

"I've been dreaming about a ruined stone garden for months. This time round... there was something out of Lord of the Flies, doing a tarot reading for me."

Ford limps over to Michael, wiping the blood from his eyes.

"And it told you that Trillian was going to get sucked into a portal behind Shelley and those other two? Did it tell you where they went?"

"It didn't tell me anything like that clear. All symbolic stuff... but it was about those four. Trillian, Shelley, Kim and Nita. And... and Lyrae."

"Random? What the hell is she doing wrapped up in all this? Isn't she on Antar?"

Michael blinks. "She hasn't been on Antar for months. She went away to school, we thought, but... if the dream's to be believed, her 'teacher' didn't have anything good planned."

"Fucking Belgium! Why wasn't I here? If I'd been here, she could have told me, I could have helped, I could have been here for her when she needed me instead of always running away..."

"You didn't know, Ford", Michael says quietly. "None of us did. Much good the precog's done..."
