Todd sits at a table near the bar...with a spirograph.

He is playing with it instead of doing his homework. Even apt pupils need to let their hair down sometimes, right?

Currently he's working on a red one. Dig it.

*Doctor Gottreich appears out of the shadows and pulls up a chair. He nods in greeting.*

Young man. It has been sometime, hmm?

*He looks Todd over over the tops of his glasses.*

Todd even looks mildly startled for a moment. Then he puts down his spirographery and gives the Doc a stunning smile.

"Hello, Doctor. It's certainly been awhile. How goes your work?"

*The Doctor shakes his head wearily*

Ah. It goes, young man, it goes.

Tell me. What is that you have there?

Todd smiles again, pushing it towards him. "This is a spirograph, Doctor. You can make complex mathematical patterns using only this tool and then pen that's attached." He indicates the pen, and pushes some fresh paper under it. "Would you like to try?"

*The Doctor scratches his chin*

Where is the boy? This sort of thing is his job.

Todd glances down at the spirograph. "I haven't seen him." Then he looks up again with another grin. "Sure you don't wanna try?"

*Gottreich waves it away*

Tsk. Toys. No.

You have not seen him? At all?

Todd shrugs. "I've seen him around occasionally. Why - is he shirking his duties again?"

*The Doctor nods and throws up his hands.*

Always! What a menace. I am at my wit's end.

Todd's lips twist. "Have you ever thought of...rewarding him, Doctor? Surely you must have. Perhaps it's time to think of some new rewards? I hear he responds very well to that sort of thing."

Todd strokes his chin. "Teach him new things. Improve his technique. I think it's best to dazzle him with the strange, the grotesque, and the obvious. He's fairly immune to subtleties."

So it is. It's much better than trig, and Todd's the kind of person who makes perfect spirograph spiros almost every time. Maddening, isn't it?

And Todd is blatantly ignoring Thom. Spirographs are more interesting.

Todd starts singing over him: "I've paid my dues, time after time/ I've done my sentence, but committed no crime..."

Todd finally looks deviously at Thom, still singing. He has a decent voice y'know...

"And bad mistakes, I've made a few/I've had my share of sand kicked in my face, but I've come through..."

And that means he'll go on. And on. And on. And on......

*Thom is bored. And looks it. Without attention he will wander away . . . *

Todd could stab a knife into Thom's hand, if he'd like. But instead he gets right to the point. He steeples his fingers and grins at Thom from over them.

And in a shockingly Brady Bunch fashion - or is it so shocking by now? - he says cheerfully: "I'm going to fuck you up."

*Raises an eyebrow. Now this he recognizes. Thom smiles; it's not a very nice smile. But otherwise his face might fall off.*

You might be surprised how little's left for you to do.
