Jack'd come in, wiping his hands on the thighs of his jeans, to sit himself down at the Bar and order some coffee. Been up working with the horses since early morning, man could use some good coffee, and, as has been previously noted, Bar makes a damn fine cup. And maybe now and again he turns his head to glance over his shoulder at the door, that one he can see and Ennis can't. Could also be some vague notions of getting lunch in his mind, too.

Even ones who drink coffee.
"'Mama, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys,'" he warbles over his guitar and smiles winningly.

He shakes hands, the palm of his hand still warm from where it'd been holding the coffee mug.
"Nice to know you, Charlie. Can't say as I know much a Johnny Cash, and sure don't know much 'bout guitars, either, but it's kinda nice, havin' some music. Seems a lot a folk here sure like to play."

"Do you play?"
no subject
"Nope. Knew some fellas at rodeos who played, but I ain't never touched a guitar. Just passin' the time, like you said, on the road and the like."

Jack shoots him a slightly bemused grin.
"Ever been t'one?"

It's a non-verbal 'can I get you something?'

"This'll do me for now. You're lookin' kinda damp there, Mal."
no subject
A shrug, a grin.
"I went for a swim. It's nice out there, really."
no subject
"Ain't much for swimmin'. Gettin' warm enough for it, I guess."
Getting up, he moves down a few spots, hoists himself back up onto the stool next to Mal, grins at her.
"How you doin'? Looks like I finally caught you in one piece."
no subject
A bright smile back.
"No kidding. Have to make sure I don't fall off my stool, then."
no subject
no subject
"I will."
Turns to Bar, orders a coffee, flipping wet hair from her eyes.
"How's things?"
no subject
"Can't complain. Keep busy enough, what with the chores here 'n all, and campin' was fun last weekend."
He hovers a little at the end of the sentence, like there's more to say, but then shuts his mouth and opts for a sip of coffee instead.

There might even be a smile somewhere in there before he speaks. "Afternoon, Jack."
no subject
"Hey. Doin' alright, there?"
no subject
But he grins. "I shall be getting a proper sword, soon."
no subject
The quirk to the corner of Jack's mouth probably means he's teasing.
no subject
But he's grinning as well. "The balance is quite off - it is irritating. At any rate, it will be perfectly wonderful to have one made. By the smithy here - have you met him? A rather short fellow, but very sturdy."
no subject
Jack's missing something, he feels, vaguely. A moment of thought produces it, and he reaches into his shirt pocket for the half-smoked cigarette of the other night, lights it and takes a deep breath of the smoke.
"Figure you're gonna use a sword around here?"
no subject
And he nods. "You'll likely see Tom some too, then. Quite a sharp young man about fourteen. Just a wee lad." A very handsome wee lad who reminds Lawrence much of himself at such an age.
