(no subject)
The soft rosy light of the sun sparkles on the lake, sending multicoloured lights through the velvet air as she slips into the water. Cool on her bare skin, she shivers, then ducks below the surface, opening her eyes to see the world through blue glass, silver shining on the dark sand.
She puts her head up just long enough to concentrate on not breathing, then slides back under the water, bare feet propelling her farther, deeper. The bottom vanishes slowly under her and she follows the trail of a minnow, going farther and farther down, until the soft light no longer penetrates the water. In the cold, dark embrace of the water, lakeweed wrapping around her legs, she stops, and waits, arms outstretched, her shirt moving with the slight action of waves on the surface. She turns her head up, feeling tendrils of dark hair brush at her neck, stares through the depths all the way up, where she can see the soft glow of an overcast day.
Just waits there, for what, she does not know. But waiting.
Eventually, she kicks to the surface, and goes into the main bar, perching on a barstool and trying to dry her hair.
Company might be nice.
