It really shouldn't be possible to sleep in the position Guppy is in right now.
Large stack of done paperwork on the right, larger stack of undone paperwork on the left. Head neatly balanced in the middle with his nose between the two piles.
The slightest breeze would probably send the two piles of paper scattering all over the floor and mixing up.

Be nice to him, he's been up since four.

"Bulba (hiccup) saur." Beer. No more fancy stuff. Beer is safe, beer is friendly, beer does not make the pokémon's poor little solar plexus do the rhumba for 24 hours and counting. Yes. Bulbasaur prefers beer.

[ooc: sorry to ask, but slowtimes? Must go sew LARP pants.]

Guppy hopes the rat understands.

He reaches over and rubs the Bulbasaur's forehead.

[ooc: Np, I have to ask though... LARP pants?]

Well, Bulbasaur hasn't really dealt with the wait-rats much, but Bar typically understands. Theoretically the rats should too.

The pokémon's forehead feels slightly cool. Reptile, somewhat cold-blooded, and all that. hiccup

"I have an idea." Guppy says after a moment. He goes to the bar and comes back with a paper bag.

"Breathe in and out of this a few times."

Believe it or not this one works on humans too.

The pokémon holds the bag to its mouth and breaths in hiccup and out. hiccup

And in hiccup, and out hiccup.

The trend continues, and eventually Bulbasaur begins to look a bit blue. Sad, oxygen-deprived... one or the other.

As soon as Bulbasaur starts to show signs of changing colour Guppy takes the bag off him.

"You okay there? I didn't mean that long."

"Saur bulba(hiccup)saur, saur." the pokemon says, solemnly.

....

When its beer arrives, Bulbasaur attempts to drink the entire thing in one gulp from the opposite side of the glass. It mostly succeeds. Unfortunately...

Oh well, at least the beer was good.

Guppy hands him a tissue.

The pokémon absently wipes up the dribbles of spilled beer and - you guessed it - hiccups.

"Saur bulba bulbasaur hiccup bulba, saur bulba bulbasaur." it says, conversationally.

"Well on the bright side at least it's increased your potential vocabulary by an extra five letters."

[OOC: *falls out of chair laughing*]

The pokémon gives him a wry look, then hiccups.

"Saur bulba bulbasaur (hiccup) saur saur, bulba saursasaur bulba." hiccup

Guppy sighs and shakes his head.

"I'm sorry, I don't know."

"Saur bulba," it says, with a distinct sense of it's okay, and rubs its head on Guppy's knee. hiccup

Bulbasaur peruses the mostly-forgotten papers. "Saursaur bulba, bulbasaur?"

"Oh all sorts of stuff. Reports, new drugs I have to read about, forms to fill in, that sort of thing."

He scritches Bulbasaur absently.

"Saur," the pokémon says, sympathetically. Well, maybe it can keep Guppy company while he reads. hiccup Unless he intends to take a nap?

"Saursaur bulba, saur?" it asks, settling down beside its friend's chair.

"Sure, make yourself comfortable. Do you want some food?" he asks, looking down at the creature.

"Saur, bulba." The pokémon summons a wait-rat, which departs after a muffled conversation and returns shortly thereafter, bearing a plate of fruit salad and two large mugs of Bar's excellent coffee. Also a mug of jasmine tea. One mug of coffee and the mug of tea are offered up to Guppy, to take his pick. "Bulba bulba(hiccup)saur, saur?"

"Aw, thanks mate." he says, going for the coffee.

"I didn't know you drank tea."

"Saursaur," the creature says, taking a long sip and smiling blissfully before being interrupted by another infernal hiccup. "Saurbulba saur saur, bulba bulbasaur." The virtues of tea are innumerable, apparently. Of course, coffee's good too, so the other mug it ordered is going to get quite a bit of attention, too.

In between hiccups, the pokémon munches quietly on its salad, happy to spend some time with a friend.
